Description

Walrus, Deram 1970 UK LP, JAZZ PROG ROCK LP, EX++

Walrus.

1970 UK pressed Decca Deram stereo LP, SML 1072, red and white label with 1W/1W matrices.

Vinyl in excellent condition. A few light spider trace marks visible around the spindle areas, but not to the point of excess. Vinyl surfaces are virtually free of marks, save for a very few tiny and superficial sleeve removal type hairlines, only visible under very close scrutiny. There is just one slightly more visible mark, around the area of the penultimate track on side two. This is an approx. one inch scuff mark, not a deep scratch, which affects the final two tracks. The mark is only really obviously visible for about half its length. Approx. three or four soft low level ticks can be heard throughout its duration, and a couple of soft ticks again in the silent band between tracks. However, duration is very short, and listening enjoyment is not particularly impaired. All in all, this appears to be an LP which has been played and enjoyed a few times, but not to excess, and handled with care.

Note that the mark in the photo of the label (top right) is merely a reflection!

Labels are clean and undefaced.

Sleeve in unusually clean, bright and complete condition. Just the merest touches of handling creasing evident. Tips are all crisp and sharp without wear or fraying. Spine is clean throughout, with the exception of an ever so slight dink/pinch approx. two thirds down. This is minor damage, and without breaks to the surface. The entry side is nice and sharp and without feathering. No seam splits, laminate splits, marks or pen damage. The front of the sleeve still has a really good gloss which shows the iconic David Anstey cover art off really well.

A modest reserve has been set to cover my inital investment in this LP, although I believe it is well under the current market price.

Details:

This was the sole LP release by Walrus, although I believe that they released a couple of singles as well. From the liner notes: - "Eight raving freaks playing their own brand of heavy brassy funk. They use brass with imagination, which leaves many beautiful and weird pictures in the mind. They are tastefully heavy, definitely habit forming, as I think you will find after listening to the first few bars. Open your mind and take a journey with them on this their first album... Karma".
