Description
This is an auction for what can only be described as a true one of sale. After collecting and selling records on Ebay since 2002 my knowledge of vinyl is certainly better than average, having dealt with nearly all groups, labels etc, and building up quite a vast collection of reference books, I simply did not find a Record that I could not place after a search. Then I bought this with a collection of Punk Rock Records. I've had this record for about 4 years during which time i have done a few checks on it all drawing a blank, So I turn to Ebay and its collectors, I have recorded both tracks in full, approx 3 and a half minutes each and put them on my web site. Go here to listen findyourhobby.co.uk .I could of put a small sample on here but you would want to hear they play fine through out on both tracks as I would besides the lyrics tell a story and give some clue to the issues of that time ( Race, Sun Paper, Work. Drugs, ) If you have any genuine information please let me know, once verified the listing will be updated.
Here's what I know already. This acetate was made at Abbey Road Studios and has Abbey Road Studios labels on both sides, There are two tracks cut on this acetate, Working Man ( A side written in pen ) and Sun Says ( B side written in pen ). Now the titles and indeed the lyrics have been fed into numerous search engines I even sent the details to Record Collector Magazine, They could not place the titles and said they were quite possibly working titles and may have been changed. As stated before, if this was the case then i'm certain from all the lyric searching I have done I would of still of found the records. I think that the lyrics were maybe to controversial, as you will hear with The Sun Newspaper and Race being the topic of Sun Says. Working Man describes how they are just living for the weekend. Both records are certainly rebelious and have a 60s Psychedelic Punk Rock sound, this record would come under Rock / Psyche / Punk the sound is superb.
It may indeed of been made by one of the major Punk / Rock groups and they did not want to risk or were simply banned from the release of this record, although the tunes were sure to be hits there that good. The fact it was recorded at Abbey Road Studios again points to this being a big name. The year has been very difficult to specify, with a great late 60s early 70s Psyche / Rock sound but that very early Punk feel. The Phone number on the label starts 01 which points towards the Punk era. The label also has what at first I thought were catalogue numbers 61X written on them, but again Record Collector confirmed these were not the catalogue numbers of any released record.
So there you have it this unknown top quality piece of Vinyl can not get any rarer, with this quite possibly being the only Acetate with copies of these tracks in existence. Not only copies but master copies cut into an Abbey Road Acetate. It is in superb condition I have stored this record knowing it's possible importance. The 10" Acetate has both 45s in near mint condition, Working Man has a couple of tiny pops in the very beginning of the record, these are only heard under very close scrutiny it goes on to play perfect through out. Sun Says is simply mint playing as new. Both sides are clean with no scratches marks or blemishes what so ever. Graded at Ex+ ( near mint ). Genuine collectors Please take the time to listen to what could be a very important find.
Lastly the value, well again this is almost impossible to say with out the name of the group, but im certain many will no this group once heard as the obvious quality of the sound on both records almost speaks for itself and could only be produced by a well known group. The fact this is possibly the only recordings of these records or at the very least a master copy of two very rare records adds to its collectability, made at Abbey Road the most famous of Studios. It is a genuine one off and a must for the serious collector of vinyl, No Reserve, Low Start lets see what happen's. I will update with all and any verified information.
