Just how rare is this AMAZINGLY rare 10-inch LP? Well, allow us to clue you in: this monster-rarity, a genuine piece of the American political history (as well as political hysteria), was released on a then obscure Moses Asch’s Folkways label the same year Ethel and Julius Rosenberg were fried alive in the Old Sparky as communist spies (which they may or may not have been, but that is a different matter altogether). Senator Joseph McCarthy and his Anti-American Activities Committee were at the very peak of their witch-hunting political powers, and the persecution of liberal, progressive and left-wing Americans was on and raging. One could lose job, health, reputation and sanity (and more – much, much more) just for buying or owning a copy of this "subversive" masterpiece, which can probably help explain why only a handful of these rare Woodie Guthrie discs can be found today. People simply did not want to risk losing their life, liberty and a pursuit of happiness just by owning a work of a suspected communist sympathizer. In retrospect, the mere ownership of a copy of this 10-inch LP, may have been construed an act of civil courage (or disobedience, depending on perspective) . In short, this little plastic disc was completely radioactive back then. Nobody in the right mind would so much as touch or look at it, let alone buy it. It required inordinate courage and stamina just to approach the salesman and ask if he (heavens forbid) had a copy of it in stock. It was the equivalent of what today would probably be asking for a copy of the Forbes Magazine ™ in North Korea or a copy of the Playboy magazine in Saudi Arabia.
How important is the album, musically? Well, probably anything and everything Bobby Dylan, Phil Ochs, Pete Seeger, Peter Paul and Mary, Weavers, John Prine , Tom Paxton, Richard and Mimi Farina, Joan Baez, Eric Von Schmidt and Bruce Springsteen ever recorded, can be traced to this 10-inch disc. If this is NOT sufficiently important musically, we don't know what "important" means.
THIS IS A NO-RESERVE AUCTION!

· CONDITION:
· RECORD
(IMPORTANT NOTE: unless otherwise noted, ALL records are graded visually, and NOT play-graded!; we grade records under the strong, diffuse room light or discrete sunlight)
(a) WE GRADE THE VINYL AS STRONG VG++, just a notch below NEAR MINT. A few light abrasions (probably just sleeve scuffs inflicted in storage over the years) ARE VISIBLE, but they appear fairly insignificant relative to the overall condition of the vinyl, and are only moderately visually distracting. For most part, the vinyl looks impeccable, without any MAJOR visual flaws or imperfections. Much of the original luster is intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles almost like new.
We could not "feel" these abrasions with our fingertip, and we suspect that they are NOT audible.
(b) The record has a "deep groove" (an indent in the label about 1/2-inch from the edge of the label, which on SOME labels is associated with very early or first pressings).
(c) The record comes with its original booklet (lyrics insert)
(d) The record is pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!
(e) The record has an "ear" symbol (a pretzel-like engravure about 1/4-inch/6mm long) in the trail-off vinyl, which on SOME jazz and blues labels (such as Blue Note; Folkways; Period, etc…) is associated with very early or first pressings). The 'ear' symbol is actually a letter 'P' in italic script, denoting a pressing made by Plastylite Corporation’s pressing plant.
(f) Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!
· COVER
THE COVER IS NICE --- ABOUT EXCELLENT OR VERY GOOD+++.
The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:

- Cover shows JUST A HINT of yellowing on both sides, apparently from aging.
