Label Conditions: Both very clean, fresh and attractive with just a fine spindle trace on side two – both look practically as made.

Mode / Speed: Stereo / 33.3 rpm.

Warps: Assume all records I offer have no warping of any significance and all tracking is easy and effortless and should play on all turntables and even ‘budget’ decks.

Weight of this Record: 118 grams. About average for it’s era.

Rarity: Moderate, but a little more elusive than earlier albums. Also, this another Factory Sample, this time the sticker on the back cover. Not so easy to find in very clean and barely played conditions either.

Brief Info: The seventh studio album by Paul McCartney’s Wings, it proved to be their final album which was not the intention when it was recorded. Featuring two new members in Laurence Juber and Steve Holly and a host of big-name guest musicians to form the Rockestra for a couple of tracks on side two. The album title was a hint of getting back to basics with a more simple rock sound and it sold fairly well but not as strongly as previous albums (bar the debut). This a barely played copy from the collection of demos and Factory examples I recently purchased and most fans will enjoy this one.

Cover Grade and Format: EXCELLENT(+): a single unlaminated format with matt smooth surfaces. Printed and made in England by Garrod & Lofthouse, the back side has a Factory Sample sticker. Includes the unusual inner sleeve with a one hole window with one-sided lining square that fills this area.

Cover Front: Being dark and matt finished, this cover does not wear well but this has little to fault. A tiny thumb burr on the centre of the right opening edge apart, this has few other blemishes and lacks the usual rubbing and ringwear so many are seen with. One fine spine-edge crease but few others and very clean and fresh looking, this front is very strong and nice looking.

Cover Back: The back has the ‘Factory Sample’ sticker near the top right corner area. Again little wear, any minor surface marks are only really just seen under light and all is very to the front minus the tiny thumb crease.

Top Edge: Quite thick for a ‘side’ edge and this has barely any wear and any compression very slight indeed. A light rub trace towards the right corner hardly even shows.

Bottom Edge: Almost as made with barely anything to fault.

Right Edge(s), and Type: Clean, mostly sharp with little wear and no trimming. A small trace of thickening near the centre from the thumb crease as previously mentioned, this has NOT split. Record enters on this edge.

Spine and Text: A thick spine that shows little wear. Solid, mainly straight with any compressions light. All text is present with any rubs or blemishes tiny, few and faint.

Corners: All retain excellent or better shape and show hardly any traces of wear at all. This all quite unusual on this quite thick, boxy cover.

Cover Summary: A strong all-round example of this wear-prone 70’s cover, one that will prove difficult to find much better. This solidly attractive item should please many, if not most collectors.

The Inner Sleeve: MINT(-): and why the minus, well not really sure being honest. This is fragile and quite unusual in design. A card inner with a single circular window – the back is solid. This window has a transparent lining fitted just to cover the hole so the label one side can be viewed. This fragile lining is pristine and ultra clear with no creasing or even crinkle. The window circle is immaculate. And the same goes for the rest of the inner. The top recessed opening is as practically as made and there are no creases worthy of note and all edges unsplit (with NO repairs). This can never be guaranteed even from new. Very slight record rim impression is nigh-on unavoidable and this superbly strange and unusual inner will prove near impossible to find better.

Vinyl Condition/Visual Grading: MINT(-) / EXCELLENT(++): a super visual copy that is very clean, shiny, intense black and solidly pressed. A faint dull seen on one side under light has NO sound whatsoever, hence EX++ rather than a full Mint(-) grading. A copy played probably once prior to my sound-check on all the evidence with any surface traces few, ultra fine, light and faint. Visually a super record that should please most collectors.

Album Played For Grading: Yes. [I play ALL records I offer before submitting to Ebay, also the record is played in its entirety unless clearly stated otherwise. I do NOT play snippets or joining grooves to check for sound quality and quietness – I play from the beginning to end via clinically revealing B&W speakers that include the legendary tweeter from their awesome Nautilus range that reveals every blemish or minuscule sound present on any record.]

Sound Quality and Audio Grading: This final Wings album plays up to it’s high visual grading with nothing to fault. Strong, distortion-free sound, all frequencies are sharp and clear - sound quality is very high with a wide dynamic range and very detailed sound. Any surface sounds barely even registered and no pops or clicks were noted and this is an exceptional clean pressing. Few copies will outperform this early pressing significantly I feel sure. Both channels are clean and sharp, I am certain this record has been played very lightly and has been clearly well stored and carefully handled within a non-smoking environment. Nothing spoilt my pleasure when play-grading this wonderful record. This copy will prove very difficult to find significantly better – especially as a Factory Copy – and can be strongly recommended.

The record’s cover will be placed within a BRAND NEW soft protective sleeve and the actual record will be professionally cleaned on my new VPI-17 Pro vacuum system to give ultimate clean grooves and playing surfaces and the best possible looks and ultimate sound quality. You will NOT get tired, dull looking, dust infested records inside worn and foggy covers with tatty inners from this seller and that’s a promise and guarantee. All records are posted in professional boxes (NOT Mailers, these do not offer any real protection). The record(s) are REMOVED from their main cover to avoid edge splits and placed within a brand new polylined inner. The record’s original inner will be included if available. The boxes are then reinforced with at least TWO, ULTRA THICK stiffeners for maximum extra protection – these are FOUR TIMES thicker than commercial stiffeners and are custom-made for oneadayrecords. SOME GENERAL GUIDES TO WEAR AND CONDITIONS TO HELP YOU DECIDE

My Use of Description Terminology: Surface Marks = Superficial, usually light marks, hairlines or light scuffs that rarely sound. Scratch = a needle mark that goes below the record’s surface, some will sound, some will not, my play-grade will inform. Original = a record that has been pressed with the first label design which does NOT necessarily mean a very first pressed record. First Pressing = A record that I believe or know to be a genuine very first pressed record. I do not claim to always know for sure, and that’s why I state the stamper and matrix numbers if at all possible, for those who claim to know what they all mean, the information is there for the collector to decide. I prefer to use terms like ‘Early Copy’ rather than ‘First Pressing’ if I am not totally sure. Surface Sound = Mild, light sound, usually light crackle or similar. Distortion = Break up of the actual sound caused by groove wear or damage from a chipped stylus – the most undesirable form of unwanted sound, vintage mono records were the most prone to this happening but not exclusively so. The symptoms of distortion are high frequency clipping, moderate constant crackle or an echo type sound quality. Violin, piano and vocals are most prone to groove-wear distortion. Feathering = Fraying or softening of the entry edge of a cover. Covers with feathered entrance edges are more likely to have had the actual record inserted and removed more than a non-feathered, sharp-edged cover which are always far more attractive. Set Off, actually a printer’s term for dark ink leaving mild residue on pale or white ink when rested upon. e.g. when a gatefold cover has black ink closed against white, this can leave some black residue on the pale area – this is mostly unavoidable or course.

The Argument for Vinyl Original sound and mix (mono mixes are rarely available on CD), high quality sound on clean copies (played on a hi-end dedicated analogue system – breathtaking sound!), beautiful, large format covers, artwork, inserts and even full size posters etc; huge investment potential, and the pleasure of owning ‘the real thing’.
