HUGE 78rpm COLLECTION
2,000 + RECORDS
Go back in time, to 1956, when radio stations were converting from their 78rpm library, to the new, more compact, 45rpm format. Overnight, many stations were dumping their heritage, their collections of records that had accumulated over many years.
Such was the case for WDXI, in Jackson, Tennessee. The station was moving into the future and that big rack of 78s wasn't part of it. The records were to be hauled off to the junkyard (the fate of many libraries at the time) but these were saved by a music lover who carried them home, and then moved them around the country several times, keeping the big collection together.
Now, some 48 years later, they're on the market. Still housed in their original green shucks, this appears to be about 60% promos, and quite a number of those are the rare pressings on vinyl, not shellac.
Some were lightly used and are (for the most part) in wonderful condition. Many appear to be unplayed. These were always stored indoors, so NO water damage, mildew, spiders, warping or other typical problems. Amazingly enough, there seems to be very few hits in this collection, but a large number of oddballs, unusual records, and non-chart items. If you're looking for all the hits, this ain't it. It's the other stuff, the records that you don't see so often. The majority of the library seems to be from 1948 - 1956. THIS IS APPROXIMATELY 14 SHELF FEET OF RECORDS
Since these are pretty heavy, and rather fragile, you probably ought to come get 'em, because mailing them doesn't seem to be an option. Perhaps if you're on the way to the Austin Record Convention in the 2nd weekend of October, you can get them on the way. They're just south of Ft. Worth, Texas in a pastoral setting. It would be a nice drive. Those heavy sleeve alone are over $100 worth.
