In 1992, WASP (or W.A.S.P.) released their fifth studio album, titled 'The Crimson Idol'. It was originally supposed to be a Blackie Lawless solo album, but it ended up being a WASP album instead. It's the story of Jonathan Steel, a fictional rock star, and his death. A heavy metal rock opera!
One of the singles released from the album is a song called "The Idol". The B side of that single is "The Eulogy", an unreleased track that was later added to the 1998 remastered two disc edition. Also in '92, "The Idol" got released on a really cool shaped picture disc! It came with a backing card, as well. Up for grabs today is a copy of that awesome early 90s metal collectible!
The vinyl itself looks really good, but has a few light surface marks on both sides. Nothing bad, and hardly noticeable. I can't vouch for the sound quality as I never play specialty vinyl such as pic discs or colored records. The backing card has a little wear and light corner bends on a couple of corners, but overall looking really good. This will come in a plain generic PVC sleeve.
'The Crimson Idol' got the remastered treatment in 2018 with a two disc set titled 'Reidolized: The Soundtrack to The Crimson Idol'. It's actually pretty good, and is pure Blackie, through and through. Check out both versions if you ever get a chance. And get stung by a WASP today with a rare shaped picture disc in this rockin' good deal!
