WARREN SMITH - SUN 268- 78 RPM RECORD - SO LONG I'M GONE/MISS FROGGIE
This is another item from Sam Phillips' SUN STUDIO located at 706 Union Avenue in Memphis, Tn. where Jerry Lee Lewis, Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins, Charlie Rich, Charlie Feathers, B.B. King and others stepped through the door to record history.This great record by rock-a-billy singer Warren Smith is from 1957 and pre-dates his success as a Country singer with Liberty. Smith was quite a character I am told and this is an interesting record. So Long I'm Gone is a strong shuffle while Miss Froggie is a driving Rock-A-Billy with a great guitar solo.
Labels- Close to Perfect. No writing, stickers or other distractions. The brown portion of the label is not as dark as some other Sun 78s, but the yellow is quite vibrant. This is not fading as the record has been stored out of the light and the colors are even on both sides. This is a pressing plant variation, typical of the era.This doesn't detract but is mentioned in the spirit of full disclosure.
Playing Surface: VG+/VG++. It is virtually flawless except for some tiny hairline scratches. Sounds great! No cracks, edge chips or other concerns. The record appears to be ever so slightly off center but tracks beautifully. Again, this is typical of many 50's era Suns.
This is a fine addition to any rock-a-billy/Sun collection.
