Description
Here's a nice rare collectible from the great WALTER 'SHAKEY' HORTON . This is a special album, not least because the playing talent of Shakey Horton is at his outstanding best on these tunes, despite the fact that the recordings were made during a short stopover in Britain whilst on tour with a blues 'package'. What adds to that, is that his sidemen include MARTIN STONE . He had his own band that recorded a rare 45 on Purdah as STONE'S MASONRY, was with Parlophone Records' mod freakbeat band The ACTION, the SAVOY BROWN BLUES BAND on their debut Decca release 'Blues City Shake-Down', Blue Horizon's blues psych MIGHTY BABY , then went on to play in Chilli Willi And The Red Hot Peppers . He achieved a great renown with guitar afficianados and connoisseurs, and particularly the scribes of 'OZ', the hippy magazine of the time that extolled the virtues of long hair and dope-smoking, and general psychedelic indulgences! Indeed, he is still revered today as a champion of un-commercial guitar-hero-ism (and when you listen to Eric Clapton in his mega-famous excursions away from the blues-psych that got him attention in the beginning, you realise how incongruous and meaningless fame is compared to actual tangible talent). On 'SOUTHERN COMFORT' Stone gets to play bluesy runs and embellishments as the only axe-man, and gets a 12+ minute real showcase on 'Netti Netti', the instrumental final track on the LP, which he co-composed . The other musicians here include Jesse Lewis, and Jerome Arnold from Elektra's The Paul Butterfield Blues Band . I notice that John Pantry engineers on this LP - he who wrote tracks for sought-after 60's psych band Factory, among other creditable studio achievements! The vinyl is in superb NM- condition, no scratches and very little sign of any wear. The SIRE LONDON RECORDS Stereo SES-97011 labels are spotless and show no play or spindle marks. The cover is VG++ , and has a sticker on the front (probably put there by the record company, as it states the stereo/mono capability of the recording). Winner please add $5 for postage and packing within USA (international or special mailing and insurance extra).
