Description

original Jamaican reggae single produced by The Wailers: Bob Marley & The Wailers "Midnight Ravers" / "Ravers Version" (Tuff Gong records)

BOB MARLEY
& THE WAILERS
MIDNIGHT RAVERS
RAVERS VERSION
original 1972 pressing

The Wailers' haunting apocalyptic single on their Tuff Gong single released in the U.S. features one of the baddest dubs ever put to wax as every last ounce of this visionary revelation is wrung out and freeze-dried in a phase-shifted atmosphere of total dread. The Wailers had stepped out on their own at this point leaving Lee Perry behind while taking Carlton Barrett from The Upsetters band along with them. According to the just issued and highly recommended book, BOB MARLEY & THE WAILERS: THE DEFINITIVE DISCOGRAPHY by Roger Steffens and Leroy Jodie Pierson, this original pressing features Bob Marley on vocals & guitar, Peter Tosh with harmony and guitar, Bunny Wailer providing more harmony and percussion plus playing rare bass, Carlton Barrett on drums, Earl "Wya" Lindo on piano, Bernard"Touter" Harvey with keyboards, John "Rabbit" Bundrick on keyboards, and Alvin "Seeco" Patterson on additional percussion. Carlton Lee engineered this masterwork when it was recorded at Dynamic Sounds Studio in Kingston, Jamaica on an 8 track recorder. Mixing engineers were Stu Barrett and Tony Platt. Read my interview with Peter at midnightdread.com where you can also freely see & hear my "Who Let The Dogma In" article which gives in depth analysis to the incendiary lyrics in "Get Up, Stand Up" and their current relevance. See my other current auction of other unusual Wailers & reggae vinyl this week on eBay.

The ORIGINAL Tuff Gong US vinyl appears near mint though some surface noise in the quieter sections puts it in the VG condition category. No skips, no warp, no handwriting anywhere. Looks clean & pristine (see photos).
