Description

For auction is this Vogue Picture Disk ("Vogue, the picture record, a Tom Saffady Product") number R764. It was produced in 1947 (as they all were) and features Shep Fields and his orchestra with Jack Prince on vocals. It is copyright Sav-Way Industries, Detroit. Side one (P115) is "I guess I'll get the Papers (and go home)" and side two (P116) is "Whatta Ya Gonna Do!" The record condition is VG (some scratches, no skips) but the artwork is and always has been the most important feature of these classics. Side one features a wistfull looking man in his war-time suit and hat, buying a paper from a boy wearing a sailor cap, with the big city skyscrapers in the background. Side two shows a man and woman in a malt shop, looking very 1940's, soda-jerk in the back (shaking a malt?) with a sign advertising "banana split 20¢.” The colors and style of the illustration are so typical of WWII era work, it evokes the nostalgia of a time gone by.
