Description
Portable AC powered RCA Victor "Personal Sound" record player, meaning it is all self-contained with no additional amplifier or speakers necessary. Early solid state design. Plays four speeds; 16, 33, 45 and 78. Single control for on/off and volume. Totally self-operated. You turn it on, you cue the record, you remove the tone arm at end of play and you turn it off.
Get some scratchy old records somewhere and soon enough you will be doing the Frug and the Hully-Gully with this vintage sound machine.
Very Good condition in good working order. Plays pretty well for what it is. Needle is good. Has non-removable up/down 45 adapter and there are small plastic discs on the turntable surface for the record to sit on. Plays one record at a time, there is no provision to attach a stackable 45 adapter.
All speeds work. If you ever wondered why there is a 16 speed, they were used for spoken word records, educational and sermons and the like. They even made records that played at 8 rpm but I have never seen a player for them.
The exterior is in Good condition with no damage of note. There are still several small discolorations that probably could be cleaned off with a bit more effort, and also in marker the name of the original owner but I would leave it on there for conversation value if nothing else. I have done no more than wipe this item down with a damp cloth once over, and I didn't go into the corners that diligently but it still looks pretty nice. A little attention to detail and some furniture polish would spruce it up nicely.
The casing is plastic, there is a standard latch on the front and a carry handle. Cord fits inside. In case I have not made it clear, this item is ready to go. Take it out of the mailing box, plug it in and play an old record. It will sound like an old record but it won't sound bad, in fact a scratchy old record sounds better on this kind of thing than a newer stereo.
A scarce item, I have been a record collector and dealer for 30+ years and I always bought up every portable player I could find. I don't remember having one of these before, so at the least it can be said they will not come along too often.
