In 1968 he was soloist with Arthur Fiedler's tour with the New Zealand Broadcasting Corporation's Symphony Orchestra. He was Principal trumpet with the Sydney Symphony and professor of trumpet at the New South Wales State Conservatorium of Music....The album of him doing the Lovelock was his last recording. At the time of the recording he was suffering from cancer and knew he was dying. To me, it makes that recording all the more remarkable to think he could play that strongly considering the pain and fatigue he must have been in. wikipedia: Raymond Charles Hanson AM (23 November 1913 – 6 December 1976) was an Australian composer and lecturer in composition at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. A highly regarded teacher and mentor to many prominent Australian musicians, such as Don Burrows and Roger Woodward, Hanson himself was largely self-taught.As a composer, Hanson was not a follower of prevailing trends, and consequently his music was unfashionable and ignored by many of his contemporaries. Late in life however, his distinctive personal style began to receive greater recognition, and his work is now held in high esteem by some critics.William Lovelock (13 August 1899 – 26 June 1986) was an English classical composer and pedagogue. He was appointed as the first Director of the Queensland Conservatorium of Music in Brisbane, Australia, two years later but left in 1959 after disagreement over his teaching methods. However, he chose to stay on since, for the first time, he found that he had the time and freedom to compose seriously. Meanwhile he supported himself as a free-lance teacher, adjudicator, and as chief music critic for The Courier-Mail in Brisbane.It was during Lovelock's residence in Australia that he wrote the bulk of his musical compositions, which range from large orchestral, choral and band works to teaching pieces for children, as well as 14 concertos. Some of his works were intended especially for Australian performers, such as his Trumpet Concerto (1968) for John Robertson, which remains his most performed piece. A number of others filled gaps in the repertoire of certain instruments, such as tuba, double bass, and xylophone. Only occasionally a demanding composer, Lovelock considered himself a romantic and believed that “one of the most important functions of music is to provide entertainment rather than coldblooded intellectual abstractions.”Because his major music was written there, Lovelock is considered an Australian composer, although he himself commented "I prefer to feel that I am an English composer who happens to live in Brisbane". Of his many textbooks on musical theory, history and composition, some still continue in use even beyond the English-speaking world.
