Since its founding in Copenhagen in 2000, the band has released four albums that have made them superstars. They collect platinum awards and prestigious music awards like other people's shoes and have been on everyone's lips worldwide. Volbeat distill down the essence of Metal, Rockabilly, Country & Western and Rock'n'Roll until a sound is produced that has gasoline in its throat. They are admired by music fans around the world and are recognized by legendary musicians such as James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich from Metallica (who invited them on their tour in 2009), Lemmy, Danish metal icon King Diamond, as well as Dave Mustaine, Hank III, Jon Schäfer, Social Distortion and Scott Ian. And now, with their fantastic fifth album, Outlaw Gentlemen & Shady Ladies, Volbeat secure a place next to these legends at the best table in the rock music scene. You can hear the influence of the classic rock'n'roll of the 50s in the powerful song Pearl Hart and in Lola Montez, which is likely to become a live classic in the not too distant future. The riffs on Dead Buy Rising and The Nameless One show that Volbeat's roots are in metal. The ghostly “The Lonesome Rider” has a rockabilly heart. It's a duet with Sarah Blackwood from the Canadian band Walk Off The Earth — perhaps a modern incarnation of Johnny Cash & June Carter Cash. “It's a new vibe for Volbeat, “explains Michael Poulsen, head of the band. “It's really all there - rockabilly, the melodies, ultra-heavy passages, western elements and awesome rock songs - so everything that makes Volbeat, just a little bit more powerful. “The hard core of the band, the trio Michael Poulsen (vocals/guitar), Anders Kjølholm (bass) and Jon Larsen (drums), has recently joined the hard core of the band, the trio Michael Poulsen (vocals/guitar), Anders Kjølholm (bass) and Jon Larsen (drums) previous Anthrax and The Damned Things guitarist Rob Caggiano, who also co-produced the album with long-time producer Jacob Hansen. Jacob Hansen and Rob Caggiano produced together, which brought a whole new dynamic to the recording process. “The first time I met Michael and Anders was at one of the Big Four shows,” recalls Rob Caggiano. “Volbeat was really the number one topic everywhere. When I left Anthrax, I wanted to do something different and decided to focus on producing for a while. I suppose Michael noticed that, and he asked me if I would like to fly over and work with them on the album. I said yes, of course. It was perfect. “So the Volbeat Dream team is perfect, the greatest album in their band history is ready to go and fans around the world are looking forward to an official tour, all in all, dazzling prospects. “I chose this life because I like to make music and go on tour,” Michael explains. “We wanted to write songs, we wanted to emulate our idols, we just wanted to rock. For me, that's exactly what music is all about.”
