I dont know why THE VOICES have fallen into virtual obscurity. This is EAST HARLEM soul and funk circa the early 70s and delivered via a huge choir backed by a funky rhythm section. (The basslines are driving !) Long before the SOUNDS OF BLACKNESS and KIRK FRANKLIN the VOICES were doing crossover... but they werent watering nothing down. This is simply a FUNKY and ENERGETIC album plain and simple. The message is liberation... the groove is JB. This is one choir that WILL get you seeing the HOLY GHOST... (Holy Ghost as in the BAR KAYS - - remember that groove ? Well this is just as funky.

This is the first of only three albums this phenomenal soul/funk/gospel group ever recorded. This is the authentic voice of Harlem, the genuine voice of the Ghetto, and the supremely "Harlem " album, only of the most honest recordings of the 1970's. (IMPORTANT NOTE: unless otherwise noted, ALL records are graded visually, and NOT play-graded!; we  grade records under the strong, diffuse room light or discrete sunlight)

(a)          WE GRADE THE VINYL AS STRONG VERY GOOD+(+) . CAUTION: The vinyl is NOT MINT or NEAR MINT, but is nevertheless in a very nice and clean condition. There are some surface marks and abrasions, mostly light and superficial, although some may be longer than 1.1/4 inches (1 inch = 2.5 centimeters)

(b)          The record comes in the original stock inner sleeve.

(c)           The album comes with its original insert/lyrics sheet

(d)          The record is pressed on a RELATIVELY  thick, inflexible vinyl. This is NOT a thin, flimsy ('dynaflex' type),  vinyl, but not the thickest, most rigid vinyl, either.

(e)           Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

·                               THE COVER

THE COVER IS ABOUT VERY GOOD- / very good minus /  (VG-).

The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:

-        A visible water stain affects about 15% of the cover (visible on both sides); there is no structural damage to the cover, and both cardboard base and paper slick are intact, however, the stain is visible

-        The gatefold cover has partially split seams on 2 out of 4 "legs" of the cover (about 4 and 6 inches / 1 inch = 2.5 centimeters).

-        Cover has some fraying/wear along the top and bottom seams.

-        Cover has some light ring wear (nothing significant); On the scale from 1 to 10 (1 being the least, and  10 being the most severe), we assess the severity of ring wear as 4; Inside gatefold has some light ring wear as well.

-        The cover has circular tarnish (grayish, dust-covered sections, which closely follow the contour of the record),  probably caused by friction or by rubbing against other covers during the storage. The tarnish is similar in appearance to a common ring wear, but, UNLIKE ring wear, these grayish areas may be possible to clean up with a minor effort and with a right cleansing solution.

-        Cover shows some yellowing on both sides, apparently from aging (nothing significant)

-        Cover has three corners slightly worn / dinged (nothing significant)
