R733 ~ HOUR OF CHARM ALL-GIRL ORCHESTRA
R734 ~ ART KASSEL ORCHESTRA
OFFERS INVITED! U.S. BIDDERS ONLY, PLEASE.
BACKGROUND: For your consideration is this pair of Vogue picture records. I found these records in my grandparent's house when it was being cleaned and their estate was being settled. I found these in a back closet, inside of an old paper bag. My guess is that they bought these new in 1946/1947. These records have beautiful images/artwork on them and I have admired them for many years. However, now that I am downsizing, I would like to pass them along to someone who will appreciate them.
DESCRIPTION: These items measure 10 inches in diameter, play at 78 rpm, and feature one song/title per side. I have not played them.
The Kassel record has the song "A Little Consideration" on one side (mx. p-13-1) and features a 1940's man, wearing hat, presenting flowers to a surprised lady. The other side is "Sweetheart" (mx. p-12-1) and features a tearful-looking young lady gazing at a man's picture, sitting by a phone (waiting for him to call?)
The Hour of Charm record has the song "Blue Skies" on one side (mx. 64-2f) and features a pretty lady looking to the skies, keeping the sun out of her eyes with her hand. In the center area, this is marked "VOGUE SECOND" (see pic. #2). The other side is "Seville" (mx. p66-1BA) and features a dancing couple in Latin-style dress.
CONDITION: These records are being graded visually; the Kassel record would grade "E to E-" (E = excellent) and the Hour of Charm record would grade "P" (p = poor, i.e. collection filler). The images on both are crisp and colorful and not obscured by milkiness or heat marks.
The Kassel disc has numerous light scratches and scuffs all over its surfaces on both sides. The center of the "Sweetheart" side is bubbled up somewhat, probably during manufacturing process. There is much wear on the the run-out area, near the center. The "Consideration" side seems a little bumpy and has light scratches and scuffs all over its surface. It still has lots of shine and the images are crisp and clear. Really attractive!
The Hour of Charm disc is marked "VOGUE SECOND" (see pic. #2) and is in poor condition. There is a large chip out of the vinyl at 3 o'clock position on "Blue Skies" side (bottom of other side). It is about 1-1/8 inches long and extends about 1/2 inch into the record, but is not into the image. There is rather heavy scuffing and scratching all over the surface. The "Seville" side has a large 10 inch lamination crack through the middle, 9 o'clock to 3 o'clock position (does not show through on other side). There is also heavy scuffing and scratching all over the surface. There are also many small lamination cracks in the center and random ones on this side in the playing area.
Condition issues aside, these are still attractive items, they are SEQUENTIAL ISSUE NUMBERS, and they deserve to be displayed and admired!
