121. VOGUE PICTURE RECORDS ~ 2-FOR-1 MONEY/BID!

R707 ~ CLYDE MCCOY AND HIS ORCHESTRA

R776 ~ ENRIC MADRIGUERA ORCHESTRA

OFFERS INVITED! U.S. BIDDERS ONLY, PLEASE.

BACKGROUND: For your consideration are these two gorgeous Vogue picture records from 1946/1947. These originally belonged to my grandparents and they were found after they had passed and their estate was being settled. These records were found in an old paper bag in a back closet; my guess is that my grandparents probably bought these new. At any rate, they had been stored for a long time. These discs have beautiful illustrations and will make great vintage display items in addition to the fantastic music that they contain!

DESCRIPTION: These records are 10 inches in diameter, have one song per side, and play at 78 rpm. Each side features a colorful illustration that is under clear vinyl with grooves/music impressed in it.

The McCoy disc is Vogue R707 with "Sugar Blues" (mx. P5-1BA) on one side; it features a cartoon image of McCoy playing trumpet, against a blue/purple background, and surrounded by "ice cube" notes and swirls. The other side is "Basin Street Blues" (mx. P7-1DA) and features an African American couple greeting each other on a city street and a steamboat scene in the background.

The Madriguera disc is Vogue R776 with "Vem Vem (Cuban Kissing Game)" (mx. P133-1A) on one side; it features a couple in Latin dress kissing with couples dancing in the background. The other side is "Mujercita" (mx. P134-1A) and has a cartoon profile of another couple, in Latin dress, dancing with other couples and palm trees in the background.

CONDITION: These items are being graded visually; I have not played them. Both discs are in "E to E-" condition with some wear around the center (not in grooves). Both discs still have lots of clear shine and the graphics are crisp, centered, and colorful. There are no visible chips, heat marks, water damage, or cracks on either of these discs. They could probably use a wiping off, however, as they are dusty.

On the "Sugar Blues" side there is a dark smudge (under the vinyl) near the middle, some bubbles around the edge in the wax (not in graphics), and a bumpy-looking surface.  On the "Basin" side, it has a bumpy-looking surface, some sticky residue at the 1 o'clock position near the edge, and small bubbles in the wax at the edge.  It is, however, incredibly shiny and the graphics are bright and attractive!

On the "Mujercita" side, there is a scratch at the twelve o'clock position that is about 2 inches long, the vinyl is slightly cloudy on this side, there are round yellow stamps that say "NEW" and "59c" in the center, there are small bubbles in the wax on the right side, and there are many light scratches and scuffs all over this side.  On the "Vem Vem" side, there are many tiny pinhead-sized bubbles in the vinyl (almost looks like light spray paint splatters; hardly noticeable unless close to record), the vinyl is slightly cloudy, and light scratches and scuffs all over the surface on this side.
