·       This album comprises of some of the earliest material Fugs recorded for the Broadside. It remained in the can for almost three years [needless to say, the subject matters were considered too taboo for it’s time [incest, defecation, CIA, all-of-the-above, and more, and then some) and nobody at the ESP dared release the album at a time] and was finally released only circa 1967/68 when the group had already departed the label for Reprise records. The album was recorded circa 1964/65 under truly primitive conditions; true stereo copies of the album do not exist.

This, quite simply put, is the single most corrosive, cynical, sarcastic, atheist,  subversive, nihilistic,  venomous, in-your-face piece of doggy do  ever thrown in the face of the cultural/political establishment and illuminated elites by a bunch of counter-cultural, nonconformist lower-east-side commie pinko derelicts. The album is, basically, an equivalent of an act of public defecation at the Prince of Wales’ private birthday party.  In one fell swoop, The Fugs managed to sing about CIA conspiracies, human excrement, dope dealing, fetishes, homosexuality, manage-a-trois, Satanism, and God knows what else. How the Fugs were not collectively arrested and hauled-off into a maximum-security prison somewhere in Death Valley after they recorded this (maybe they were buddy-buddies with J. Edgar Hoover with whom they shared some, ahem…bizarre proclivities?) is beyond me. They most certainly don't make albums like this anymore. Just read the titles, and be enlightened: We're the Fugs - New Amphetamine Shriek - Saran Wrap - The ten commandments (by God and Tuli Kupferberg) - Hallucination Horrors - I command the house of the Devil - CIA Man - Coca-Cola douche - My bed is getting crowded - Caca Rocka - I saw the best minds of my generation rot.

The front cover showing Ed Sanders in a pose which manages to simultaneously parody both William Blake's 'Brand New Day' and  Eugene Delacroix' 'Liberty leading the People' is alone worth the price ofadmission. It is a riot – and we mean: RIOT!!!! Wilhelm Reich must be laughing his derriere off in his grave.

 (IMPORTANT NOTE: unless otherwise noted, ALL records are graded visually, and NOT play-graded!; we  grade records under the strong, diffuse room light or discrete sunlight)

(a)          WE GRADE THE VINYL AS STRONG VERY GOOD+(+) . CAUTION: The vinyl is NOT MINT or NEAR MINT, but is nevertheless in a very nice and clean condition. There are some surface marks and abrasions, mostly light and superficial, although some may be longer than 1.1/4 inches (1 inch = 2.5 centimeters)

(b)          The record is pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

(c)           The album comes with its original 'Fugs Flip Book" intact!

(d)          Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

·       COVER

THE COVER IS NICE --- ABOUT VERY GOOD++ (VG++).

The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:

-         Cover has a partially split top seam (between 4 and 6 inches  / 10 to 15 centimeters); This split seam was delicately taped by the previous owner with a piece of transparent scotch tape

-         Cover has a partially split bottom seam (between 4 and 6 inches  / 10 to 15 centimeters); This split seam was delicately taped by the previous owner with a piece of transparent scotch tape

-         Cover has some light ring wear (nothing significant); On the scale from 1 to 10 (1 being the least, and  10 being the most severe), we assess the severity of ring wear as 2  (front side) and 4 (back side)

-         Back cover has circular tarnish (grayish, dust-covered sections, which closely follow the contour of the record),  probably caused by friction or by rubbing against other covers during the storage. The tarnish is similar in appearance to a common ring wear, but, UNLIKE ring wear, these grayish areas may be possible to clean up with a minor effort and with a right cleansing solution.

-         Cover shows some light yellowing on back side, apparently from aging  (nothing significant).

-         Cover has a few tiny wrinkles along the spine

-         Minor shelf wear noted on the top and bottom seams (nothing significant)

-         Cover has two corners slightly worn / dinged  / bent.(nothing significant)

NO OTHER IMPERFECTIONS ON THE COVER:

-        No cut-out (drill) holes.

-        No cut-out corners

-        No saw-marks or indents

-        No writing

-        No stamps

-        No peel-off marks

-        No stains

-        No mold or mildew spots

-        No stickers or labels  (EXCEPT for the title sticker)

-        No water damage

-        No razor marks, scratches, pressure marks, lines, streaks, or  cuts.

-        No warping

-        No wax, glue, paint or liquid drops on the cover

-        No glue traces or wax residue.

-        No bar codes

-        No RIAA stamps or stickers.
