PLEASE NOTE: I WILL ONLY GRADE AN OPENED LP NEAR MINT (NM) IF I CAN GUARANTEE IT HAS NEVER BEEN PLAYED (i.e. I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER). OTHERWISE, NEAR MINT MINUS (NM-) IS THE ABSOLUTE HIGHEST GRADE I WILL ASSIGN AN OPENED LP.
The moment I removed this one from the sleeve I immediately noticed something was different compared to the hundreds of copies I'd seen up to that point. The first thing that struck me was the strange color of the label, particularly the Atlantic logo on top. Sure enough, it had an extra catalog number with an R prefix directly above the standard catalog number, normally associated with a record club pressing. Definitely an RCA Music Club pressing. But 90-95% of music club pressings I've seen over the last 40 years were later SD 19127 pressings from the 70s and beyond when music clubs proliferated. This one is an SD 8236 press with an 1841 Broadway address(!), flat matte cover and NO RCA Music Club logo printed anywhere on the outside cover, inside cover or label! I took to Discogs and came up completely empty. Then I noticed a little sticker on the bottom of the cover on the rear. Same exact RCA catalog number without the R prefix. Back to Discogs. Then Google. Still nothing. I contacted a few trusted Zep experts and the best we could come up with was that this was most likely one of the very first RCA club editions from 1969 before the pressing plants started printing the record club logos on the labels and/or covers. All they had at the time was a small sticker to designate that it was a club pressing. Anyone with any definitive information on this one PLEASE contact me as I'm stumped and can only speculate as to the origins of this one. Absolutely one of the rarest I've ever seen. LP side 1 is VG++ and side 2 is VG+. Cover is VG+VG++ with small initials on the bottom right hand corner on the inside gatefold.
I USE GOLDMINE GRADING: MINT (SEALED) NEAR MINT: LOOKS UNPLAYED VG++: VERY VERY MINIMAL SIGNS OF USE VG+: AVERAGE SIGNS OF USE, NOTHING DEEP, SUPERFICIAL VG: STILL AN OK RECORD, NOISE BETWEEN SONGS GOOD: WORN BUT PLAYS FINE WITH DISTRACTING NOISE POOR: FILLER COPY ONLY. LOTS OF SCRATCHES
