One of the few Rca recordings of old done in England, this 1958 issue features Raymond Agoult at the helm of the New Symphony Orchestra of London, in the playing of overtures.

And, I must tell you, the price of audio admission is worth it alone for the first cut, LIGHT CAVALRY by von Suppe. (If you don't get undeniable images of the cavalry forming up before a great assault, you need to play it again…louder this time.)

Other beautiful selections include von Suppe's MORNING NOON AND NIGHT IN VIENNA and QUEEN OF SPADES, plus ZAMPA by Herold, IF I WERE KING by Adam, and Auber's THE CROWN DIAMONDS.
