Premiers Symptômes (English: First Symptoms) is the debut EP by French music duo Air, consisting of early singles released between 1995 and 1997. "Les Professionnels" was later used for the basis of Air's 1998 single "All I Need".
"It's usually just the collectors and obsessed fans that contend a band's first few singles are really their best work, far better than the material that ends up on their first album. With the French band Air, the collectors may just be right for once. Premiers Symptomes, a five-track EP boosted up to seven tracks for its eventual American issue on Astralwerks, features some of the most gorgeous moments in the duo's discography -- no small task considering the gems included on their full-length debut, 1998's Moon Safari. Almost completely instrumental (except for the surprisingly smooth robot croon on "Le Soleil est Pres de Moi"), Premiers Symptomes offers a half-dozen tracks of beautiful, deliciously downtempo synth-pop. It's far more than just a compilation of substandard early material that works best for collectors, it takes its place right next to Moon Safari as another highlight of French electronica"

"When a record company cranks out old experiments by a new band after its splashy debut, it usually means profit is taking precedence over art. But Air's Premiers Symptomes, a reissued EP collection of the Parisian pair's first three singles now expanded to seven tracks, is nearly as sublime as 1998's Moon Safari. Almost every trademark of Air's Jean Benoit Dunckel and Nicolas Godin is here: otherworldly analog synths, melodic bass lines, jazzy electric-piano tinkles, relaxed tempos, melancholy horns and a hushed simplicity that reaches back to classic French minimalist Erik Satie by way of Burt Bacharach's swingin'-Sixties lounge pop. "Casanova 70" references the beatbox soul of Timmy Thomas' "Why Can't We Live Together," while the final folky moments of "Les Professionnels" provide a beautiful blueprint for Moon Safari's "All I Need." Until the duo's soundtrack for Sofia Coppola's The Virgin Suicides drops early next year, Premiers Symptomes should provide further evidence of why Air's sonic effervescence is such a gas."
