Description

THE REVEL -  INTOXICA, THE BEST OF THE REVELS- AUDIOPHILE RE-ISSUE rare analog LP and is a cover to cover masterpiece. No weak spots in these tracks - The nicest thing you can do for your stylus and your ears. PLUS BONUS TRACKS

THIS TITLE IS SO RARE THAT THE LARGEST SITE IN THE WORLD ONLY HAS TWO SELLERS WITH THIS TITLE AVAILABLE & IT'S SELLS FOR $180 AT IT LOWEST PRICE.

Intoxica is a fun VINYL to listen to. The Revels were pretty much a pre-surf surf rock group. The band was doing it's thing before the surf craze of the early 60s caught on, but when you listen to it, you'll hear hints of what was to become surf rock as we know it. So be forwarned if you buy this expecting the Revels to sound like The Surfaris. This was a great time in rock history, coz bands could make a career out of being an instrumental group, and people loved it. You won't see this kinda thing happening today in mainstream music. In fact, if you've seen Pulp Fiction, you might remember them. Remember that rather unpleasant scene with Ving Rhames where Bruce Willis takes out those guys with a samurai sword? That peppy tune with the nasty sax? If you happen to remember that, then you've got a good idea of how the Revels sound. It's boss!

THE TORNADOES - BUSTIN SURFBOARDS - When they are at the top of their game on this LP, The Tornadoes are pure 100% Surf-Guitar, nothing watered down! Starting off mellow & cool with "Busting Surfboards," FROM PULP FICTION then going into the exotic "Malaguena" (same melody as the Russian folk song "Dark Eyes"), You'd think they'd be worried sick about getting sand in their sax, but you'd be wrong. The carefree Tornadoes didn't give a rat's ass about anything but surfin' and baggin' beavers. And the world became a better place for their callous indifference to fine brass plating.

JERRY COLE & THE SPACEMAN - SURF AGE LIMITED TO 1000 PIECES WORLDWIDE -

Could anything be better than surf music played by crazed spacemen? Not likely! And here's the proof: guitar-wrangler Jerry Cole and His Spacemen's stupidly rare 1964 LP, Surf Age! While most of Cole's albums were cranked out at the astounding pace, Surf Age, his second LP for Capitol Records, was by comparison a production of epic proportions. For the sessions, Cole and his hand-picked all-star crew of LA studio cats labored to create an album unlike any other, an endlessly inventive amalgam of surf and `60s pop.

The original liner notes say it most eloquently: "One listen to the music of Jerry Cole and His Spacemen will tell you that theirs is the sound of the SURF AGE! Their beat is as dynamic as tomorrow's crashing waves; their instrumental blend is as fresh and modern as tomorrow night's surfing dance party; their tunes are definitely for swingin' moderns."

THE VENTURES - SURFING - 180 GRAM PRESSING LIMITED TO 1000 PIECES ON COLORED VINYL - LIMITED TO 1000 PIECES - NOW OUT OF PRINT & PRICELESS IN THE COLORED VINYL PRESSING - Twelve selections from the instrumental group from the 1950's includes "Pipeline", "Windy and Warm", "Ten Over" and more to set the tone for a surfin' rockin' good time.

If ever there was a “band that launched a thousand bands,” it would be the Ventures. Founded in Tacoma, Washington in 1958, their guitar-based instrumental sound would prove hugely influential, inspiring countless followers to pick up a guitar, bass or set of drumsticks and try to emulate their heroes. As these musical neophytes would soon learn, it wasn’t as easy as it initially appeared. The Ventures were masters of tone and technique, deftly arranging their instruments in a seamless approach that was instantly recognizable. Because they were an instrumental group, their songs needed no translation, which resulted in a huge worldwide following. While many rock bands have claimed to be “big in Japan” over the years, the Ventures were the country’s first rock superstars and they maintain a devoted worldwide following to this day. With over 100 million records sold, they are the best-selling instrumental group of all time.

Sundazed is proud to rightfully address the magnificent Ventures’ catalog. Each title has been sourced from the original Dolton and Liberty Records’ reels and painstakingly mastered to sound and feel like they were originally intended. Along with precise artwork restoration on each title, these Sundazed editions stand as the definitive re-releases of these monumentally important albums. Long may they rock!

All of Sundazed's Dick Dale LP releases have been mastered from the original analog tapes and are pressed on pristine 180g vinyl, all the better to deliver the string-shredding intensity of Dick Dale's original surf and drag sounds.

In the half-century since he began his reign as King of the Surf Guitar, Dick Dale has remained one of rock's most innovative and influential axemen. Of all the surf guitarists who would follow in Dale's wake, none could match his prodigious technique, his fierce showmanship or his restless inventiveness.

Blistering Southern California guitarist Dick Dale, the undisputed "King of Surf Music," is one of the most influential figures in rock ’n’ roll history. DICK DALE AND THE DEL TONES - SUMMER SURF - In the half-century since he began his reign as King of the Surf Guitar, Dick Dale has remained one of rock's most innovative and influential axemen. A bold pioneer in the use of speed, volume and sonic texture, the charismatic Dale invented surf music, and in the process permanently altered the role of the electric guitar in rock 'n' roll. Of all the surf guitarists who would follow in Dale's wake, none could match his prodigious technique, his fierce showmanship or his restless inventiveness.

At the dawn of the 1960s, Dale's passion for the sport of surfing inspired him to create music that replicated the physical sensations of the surfing experience.

Although he began releasing singles on his own Deltone label in the late '50s, Dale made much of his most enduring music during his '60s stint with Capitol Records. In addition to carving out the surf sound on the landmark albums Surfers' Choice, King of the Surf Guitar and Summer Surf, Dale turned for inspiration to another all-American pursuit--drag racing--to create the hot-rod music genre on the LPs Checkered Flag and Mr. Eliminator.

THIS vinyl restoration of the vintage Dale catalog features Summer Surf, Dale's superb 1964 collection. It's just the ticket for chasing those wintertime blues, as the man who single-handedly invented the genre cuts loose with what he does best. Whether it's the high-stakes excitement of "Glory Wave," the wacky hand-jive of "Mama's Gone Surfin'" or the raging glory of "Tidal Wave," the sand, the sun and the waves will always be with you if the sound of Dick Dale is close at hand! This album has been mastered from the original analog tapes.

The Beach Boys Surf's Up 180 GRAM LIMITED EDITION LP

EMI continues to faithfully restore and deliver quality vinyl "From the Capitol Vaults".

Surf's Up, the album originally released in 1971, was based on the song of the same title written for the abandoned 1966-67 SMiLE album (which was later completed & released in 2004 by Brian Wilson and his band). This album features a re-worked version while SMiLE contains the original version of the song.

"The late, angel-throated Carl Wilson in particular shines here, and with two of brother Brian's greatest-ever tunes, 'Til I Die' and 'Surf's Up,' closing things out... the listener is left levitating in ecstasy as the final notes fade away. To this day, I get misty when I hear those songs - that teenage me gently inhabiting my being for a precious few minutes." - Fred Mills, Stereophile Magazine, February 2013, p. 74

The Beach Boys Surfin' Safari Debut 1962 Album! Featuring the Hits "Surfin'" & "409"!

Their classic songs epitomize the spirit of the California lifestyle and The Beach Boys have become an American icon to a worldwide audience. The Beach Boys’ first hit “Surfin’” (1961) launched a string of chart-topping songs that spans nearly forty years and includes eternal anthems of American youth: “Surfin’ USA”, “Surfer Girl”, “Fun, Fun, Fun”, “I Get Around”, “California Girls”, “Help Me Rhonda”, “Barbara Ann”, “Good Vibrations”, ”Wouldn’t It Be Nice”, “Rock and Roll Music”, “Kokomo” and more.

Their chart success alone would have earned The Beach Boys their spot in The Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame (they were inducted in 1988), not to mention 32 RIAA Platinum and Gold record awards and worldwide sales estimated at over 100 million. But The Beach Boys' story is one of not only commercial but also artistic success. Their unique blend of harmonies, musical arrangements and timeless lyrics still place the music of The Beach Boys among the All-Time Favorites of today’s music critics. The Beach Boys were honored at the 2001 Grammy Awards, receiving The Lifetime Achievement Award from the Recording Academy.

Surfin' Safari is their debut studio album, released on October 1, 1962 on Capitol. Surfin' Safari peaked at number 32 in its 37-week run on the US charts.

In the autumn of 1961, cousins Brian Wilson and Mike Love composed a song on surfing, titled "Surfin'" at the behest of Brian's younger sibling, Dennis Wilson. They quickly formed a band, bringing in the youngest Wilson brother Carl on lead guitar and Brian's high school friend Al Jardine on rhythm guitar. Brian took up bass, Dennis the drums and Mike would be the frontman, while they all would harmonize vocals arranged by Brian.

Father Murry Wilson became the band's manager. He submitted a professionally-recorded demo tape to Capitol Records that spring. The Beach Boys were signed and "Surfin' Safari" b/w "409" (from the April 1962 demo tape) was released as a single that June. Al Jardine left the band before the demo session, to be replaced by a friend of Carl's, David Marks, until the fall of 1963. With both "Surfin' Safari" and "409" becoming hits (the former reaching US number 14), Capitol Records approved a full album.

"The title track, their first true smash, is great, as is its flip side ('409'), which was not only a hit in its own right, but was the first vocal hot rod classic. 'Surfin',' their debut single (and small national hit), is also good, and one of the few Beach Boys tracks that could be said to have a garage-like quality... [A] glimpse of the group as they sounded when they were a true band in the studio, before most of their parts were played by session musicians. Two of the better cuts, 'The Shift' and the instrumental 'Moon Dawg,' have a grittier-than-usual surf rock base that would flower on 1963 hits like 'Surfin' U.S.A.'

FREDDY KING FREDDY KING GOES SURFIN' 180 GRAM LIMITED EDITION LP (MONO)

180 Gram Vinyl! Pressed at RTI! Sourced from the Original King Mono Masters! Featuring the Hit "Hide Away"!

Surfing songs? Err, no. Blazing guitar instrumentals? YES!!! Dig the sounds of blues giant Freddy King on this marvelous mono reissue of one of his most sought-after albums!

Syd Nathan, impresario of Cincinatti's King Records, was the epitome of the old-school indie record label owner. Always hustling, Nathan regularly beat the odds to release hit after hit in multiple genres. He'd try anything if he thought it might work, or more precisely, if he thought it would make money. After Chess Records turned down guitarist/vocalist Freddy King several times for sounding too much like B.B, King, Nathan thought that sound might actually be sellable and took a chance, signing Freddy to his Federal subsidiary label. They hit paydirt with an instrumental titled "Hide Away," which reached #5 on the R&B Chart and #29 on the Pop Singles Chart. Encouraged by the single's success, Nathan released a full album of King's instrumentals, Let's Hide Away and Dance Away with Freddy King. The album sold well and helped make Freddy a bankable touring act. While others would have been satisfied to move on to the next project, Syd sensed untapped potential in the LP.

Meanwhile, several artists on the West Coast were making noise in the brand new surf music scene (and by "making noise," I mean selling records). Syd didn't have any surf music artists under contract, but he DID have Freddy King. Surely, Syd surmised, if the kid's went nuts for Dick Dale's guitar instrumental workouts, they could do the same for Freddy's. All he needed was a little marketing magic...GET A NEW COVER WITH SOME SURF KIDS! THROW SOME CROWD NOISE OVER TRACKS SO IT SOUNDS 'LIVE'! CALL IT...ERR...FREDDY KING GOES SURFIN'! PRESS IT AND HAVE IT ON THE SHELVES BY NEXT WEEK!!!!!!!

While it may not have happened EXACTLY like that, King Records did release Freddy King Goes Surfin', an album containing the very same songs (in precisely the same running order) as Let's Hide Away... with crowd noise dubbed over the music. Did the ruse work? Though it didn't sell as well as the original, Freddy King Goes Surfin' did find an audience. Like Bo Diddley Is A Gunslinger, the album's title is such a preposterous premise that it surely snagged many buyers on that fact alone. And no amount of ersatz cheering and cocktail glass tinkling could cover up the six-string genius of King and his almighty Texas tone. Need proof? Fellow Lone Star blues maven Billy F. Gibbons picked Freddy King Goes Surfin' as one of his Top Ten Favorite Blues Albums of All Time.

As for Sundazed, we know not to mess with a good thing. Sourced from the original King mono masters and pressed on 180-gram vinyl at Record Technology, Inc. (RTI), we are proud to present Freddy King Goes Surfin' in its original running order with its original cover art. Sundazed is proud to present Freddy King Goes Surfin’ in magnificent mono fidelity. Cowabunga!

Davie Allan of "The Arrows" fame resurected this superb album from the original analog tapes. The sound is excellent and the songs were some of the best music coming out of the Mike Curb factory in the mid sixties. Allan pens some of his uptempo and very likeable instrumentals. Some of Sidewalk Records' artists were responsible for the vocals including Mike Clifford, Bob Bennett & Phil Kasper of "The Riptides". Allan, Guy Hemric and Jerry Styner, Harley Hatcher, and Mike Curb wrote most of the songs. This soundtrack has kept the surfing movie genre alive with a fresh new release. "Waimea Bay", "What Turns You On" (the vocal on side 2), and "The Goldnen Breed" final cut vocal are all favorites. All you need is a turntable. Hope Capitol decides to release it on a remastered CD BUT IT NEVER HAS!

TRACKS ARE: SIDE ONE - THE GOLDEN BREED - HAWAIIAN CIRCUS - WHAT TURNS YOU ON - GOLDEN TIME - CORAL BELOW

SIDE TWO - WHAT TURNS YOU ON - HIGH RISE - OVER THE FALLS - WAIMEA BAY - SURFER PARADISE - THE GOLDEN BREED

GARY USHER BAREFOOT ADVENTURE: 4 STAR SESSIONS 2LP -One of the most stubborn myths of revisionist musical history is this: the early '60s were the Dark Ages of American pop, a sad and embarrassing era of prefab teen idols and silly dance crazes that was put out of its misery by the British Invasion.

In reality, strange and wonderful things were happening with American music in the months before The Beatles met Ed Sullivan, creative big bangs that continued to evolve for decades to come.

In Detroit, Berry Gordy was defining the Motown Sound, while Stax and James Brown were inventing soul music. At 1650 Broadway, the Aldon table of songwriters was bringing sophistication to teen pop, while The Four Seasons reinvented group harmony. And in California, where America's youth culture was being born, a trio of songwriters - Brian Wilson, Roger Christian and Gary Usher - were drawing up the blueprints for the West Coast sound.

This collection explores Gary Usher's tenure as co-architect of the happiest pop music ever written, a guileless celebration of sun, surf and cars that's become an enduring symbol of the American dream.

Barefoot Adventure does more than simply collect a bunch of songs that sound great on the car radio and mean exactly what they say (take that, psychedelic music!). It's also a remarkable glimpse of the process, of a struggling songwriter angling for a break, sometimes tap dancing in tangents, oblivious to the bulls eye he was hitting on the way to forging an important new sound.

So here's the whole story, 36 terrific tracks, including exclusive Sundazed interviews with Usher himself, plus a gorgeous package with an illuminating essay and track commentary by author and Usher-biographer Stephen McParland. It's musical scholarship that's perfect for parties!

We're not sure if this is history masquerading as fun or vice-versa, but we're definitely sure that it's fun. Which, in the end, is all that matters.

"It was truly a magical period, in the sense that it was a different record business than we have today... It was a spark of rawness, innocence-what was in our hearts and minds would end up in a record the next day. Brian was 19, I was like 22, and Dennis, I know for a fact, was not old enough to drive! WE were just young - young, very raw kids who found ourselves in a position to be able to make music. None of us had any training - and it was just simply learn as we go along. And it was only made for the kids - it was never made for the professionals... I mean, when the Beach Boys hit, we were all kinda, like, shocked..." - Gary Usher

MR. GASSER & THE WEIRDOS SURFINK! 150g LP

In April 1964, Mr. Gasser and the Weirdos reconvened in Capitol Studios to record the third installment of their surf rod trilogy, Surfink! It was their hottest album yet, combining clever parody songs like "Surfer Ghoul" with knock-out instrumentals like "Midnight Run" and "Santa Barbara" that stand alongside the best singles of the surf era. Fuel-injecting the Weirdo wagon this time around were Jerry Cole, David Gates and Neil Levang on guitars, Leon Russell on piano, Steve LeFever on bass, Earl Campbell on drums and Steve Douglas on saxophone. The vocal department again featured Gary Usher, Richard Burns and Chuck Girard.

The sonic quality of the original recordings is astounding! Saxman Douglas rips, honks and wails with absolute authority while the guitars of Cole, Gates and Levang cover the gamut of classic six-string tones. Palmer's drum kit and cymbals sound so crisp you'd swear he was right there in the room and LeFever's bass anchors the bottom beautifully. The album is a testament to vintage analog recording and one that could also serve double duty as an audiophile test LP.
