This is the original gatefold vinyl of the very first Velvet Underground LP with the Andy Warhol Peel-Away Banana Cover.

Verve Records; Stereo; V6-5008; Blue & Silver label.

I'm the original owner, bought it when it came out and now it's time to send this off to another good home!

So, for the condition of the cover, as you will see:
As seems to be so common, I peeled the banana at the very top, then re-glued it.
Also peeled the banana near the bottom , started to re-glue it ( a bit unevenly) but then stopped.
In a couple pictures, you see how that peeled portion looks when slightly pushed flat. This is how it
looks when in a nice plastic record sleeve (or if you decided to re-glue this yourself).

In other pictures, you see the same area slightly lifted so you can see that I really didn't start to peel all that much.

Back cover never had any sticker.

Spine looks real nice.

Inside gatefold shows some wear and yellowing.

There is a small 2" seam split on upper left top of back cover. There are no other seam splits anywhere else.

I no longer have the original inner sleeve.

As for the vinyl, just a few minutes ago, I played the entire LP all the way through.
There are no skips or deep scratches but there is a significant amount of surface noise, some pops and crackles throughout
all the songs on both sides. To me, honestly, this is a bit distracting, specifically on the more quiet songs such as "Sunday Morning"
and "Femme Fatale." Obviously not as distracting on the noisier cuts.

Overall, still a nice opportunity to own an original copy of this landmark LP by the Velvets.

 Please note: As you can see by the back cover, this is not the Eric Emerson "torso" cover that was released in March 1967
and recalled in June 1967. That version was then slapped with a sticker over the back to cover the torso and then resold.

Later in 1967, this second edition (my copy up for auction) was released with the torso not visible.
