LA audio angel Brandon McMahon casts a sun-soaked glance back to the 70s and 80s with Small Talk, a cratebugging compilation of soft rock and AOR deep cuts, all once buried, and which never quite saw the light. Here we scour the swampier marches of the genre: there's lush harmonies; satinet guitar lines; and a restrained, midtempo sway, carefully preventive of drunken keelover. There's a breezy elegance to it all, the kind of music made for slow afternoons and long, daresay champagne tower pours. McMahon swerves obvious nostalgia, preferring the balmy languor of Greg Bowman's 'Suzanne' and the idle chatter of David Ireland's 'Small Talk'.
