In many ways, Half-Life: Alyx was just a continuation of the pre-existing (and critically acclaimed) Half-Life franchise. A first person shooter set in a post-apocalyptic future. Looking at it more closely, it was actually a major leap forward for virtual reality, not only setting a new standard for the game's genre, but also igniting interest among hardcore players for modding items, weaponry and equipment, taking advantage of the immersive format in ways that hadn't really happened before. The sense of literally stepping into the nightmare is only made more visceral by yet another standout soundtrack. Returning great Mike Morasky - responsible for the soundtracks to Portal 2 and Team Fortress 2 - was drafted, alongside consultant Kelly Bailey. Together, they came up with something audible influenced by the likes of Nine Inch Nails and The Prodigy's more metal and industrial ends, but nonetheless utterly unique.
