Review: There are few things that warm the cockles more here at RC than welcoming a new label to the fray, especially when their first full-length release is as ambitious and infectious as No Wahala Sounds’. Readers with a good memory might well remember the name from a couple of singles reviewed very favourably in Single Cream that have turned out to be pretty collectable, no doubt this very easy to love comp will follow suit.  Echoing the sterling work of Soundway, they’ve turned their attention to the rich musical soil of early 80s Kenya, focusing on the rare sides being turned out by Narobi’s Audio Productions studio. It opens with the uplifting call and response group vocals of Orch Bana Sambo’s Solongo (translated as Working Together) before moving into the richer, unrelenting rhythms of Mado Zaina by Bana Likasi, complete with irresistible, jinking horns.  If forced to choose, the highlight may well be the Kalambya Sisters’ nimble-footed charmer Wavinya, a song that may well be the musical equivalent of ants-in-the-pants. You try staying still.
