For auction is a great listeners copy of The Joshua Tree by Irish rock band, U2. Their fifth studio album, was released in March 1987 and was the band’s international breakthrough and made them global superstars. It was extremely successful commercially and was revered by critics upon its release. The Joshua Tree top the charts in more than twenty countries including the UK and the US on the Billboard 200, their first #1 album there. Four singles were released and three became Top-20 hits. The first two, “With Or Without You” and “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For” became consecutive #1s on the US Billboard Hot 100. The songs were also Top-10 hits in the UK at #4 and #6 respectively. The third single, “Where The Streets Have No Names” peaked at #6 in the UK and #13 in the US. The track, “In God’s Country” reached #44 in the US and #48 in the UK. All are now considered classics as well as the songs, “One Tree Hill”, “Bullet The Blue Sky”, “Running To Stand Still” and “Red Hill Mining Town”. The Joshua Tree was nominated for four Grammy Awards winning the coveted Album of the Year over Whitney Houston (Whitney), Michael Jackson (Bad) and Prince (Sign o’ the Times). The album also won Best Rock Performance By a Duo or Group With Vocal. “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For” was nominated for both Song of the Year and Record of the Year. The Joshua Tree is considered one of the best albums ever recorded often ending up on best of lists. It was voted #25 in Colin Larkin’s 2000 edition of All Time Top 1000 Albums and in 2020, Rolling Stone ranked it #135 on their list of 500 Greatest Albums of All Time. In 2014, The Joshua Tree was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame and was also selected by the US Library of Congress for preservation in the National Recording Registry. The Joshua Tree is one of the best-selling albums ever with global sales of over 25 million copies. In the US it has been certified diamond with sales of 10 million copies. This copy is a 1st Specialty Pressing which includes a fold out poster that also contains lyrics.
Vinyl is play graded VG+. A few very light visible surface marks but nothing deep that can felt. Plays with faint background noise that is far from overwhelming. No skips or jumps. Please see pics.
