Description

From our personal collection of music memorabilia and vinyl rarities comes this Ultra Rare, and incredibly hard-to-find double album (2-LP) from U2 entitled, "The Cork Connection," and  issued as a for fans-only "promotional" item by Sambooka Music Publishing in 1987 (indeed, the labels on both records read "Test Pressing"). This long out of print (OOP) beauty is legendary in U2 collector circles, and with good reason: we'll quote from the deluxe, fully printed front and back covers of this marvelous album (see our photos for details): "The following concert was recorded live in the Southern Irish City of Cork, before a capacity audience of 50,000 people. The show is special in that not only is it the last show of the European Tour, but also marks the Edge's 27th birthday." Furthermore, the back cover offers this quote from Bono, from this tremendous show, the last concert on the band's triumphant "Joshua Tree" tour: "The first time I ever felt that I was in a Rock & Roll Band was in Cork City ...maybe I have found what I'm looking for." On to the nitty gritty: the glossy, thin and laminated (European-style) front and back cover is in very good plus (VG+) condition, with great artwork, a replica of the ticket for the show, and full tracklistings. Minor dings and bends at the corners, a small bit of front-cover ringwear (typical for these thinner UK covers), but retains a clean printed spine, with no seam splits, writing, marks, or defacing of any kind. The yellow and black printed "UFO Test Pressing" labels are in VG/VG+ shape -- each appears to have a manufacturing "crinkle" in the paper texture, but this is certainly minor. Each label has "U2" neatly written in black marker on each of the labels from a previous owner (presumably to identify this otherwise semi-anonymous looking test press-style promo labeling). The Vinyl is clean and we'd conservatively give it a Very Good Plus (VG+) rating, as it looks to have been played and enjoyed a few times. But this was, and has been since our employ, a well-taken care of piece with NO skips, jumps, scratches, marks, or anything to detract from listening to this wonderful show. You can find out more details about this title from googling the Interwebs about sound quality (we found it to be highly enjoyable, clear, and to us, sounded like a professional soundboard, as opposed to a muddy audience, tape), but this scarce title should, above all, be regarded as a great historial document and rare collector's item for the hardcore U2 fan who has everything (but this!). As painful as it is for us, we are forced to periodically thin the herd and clear out our vaults, so our loss is your gain. We do hope this beauty finds a loving home -- hence the LOW STARTING PRICE for this ridiculously rare two-album set. For fans of one of the greatest bands of our times, and of historical labels like TMOQ, TAKRL, Yellow Dog, Vinyl Gang, TSP, Swingin' Pig etc...if you know and love these labels, then maybe you too, like Bono, have found what you're looking for with "The Cork Connection"! Thanks for checking out our auctions of rare music and good luck to all! Achtung Baby!
