U2 1989 Australian Purple Vinyl Record
You are bidding on U2’s 1989 Australian release entitled “All I Want Is You” pressed on 7” purple vinyl.  According to EIL, only 100 of these were made. This purple vinyl special release was given out at an Island/Festival K-805 radio competition. The vinyl record is in very fine/excellent condition and plays well, and the record sleeve is also in very fine condition with only a few scuffmarks on the edges. This is an extremely rare U2 record and a chance to own a piece of U2 history. Happy bidding and good luck!

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
I posted this exact listing approximately 2 months ago right before Christmas 2009.  The listing had over 100 people watching it and nearly $1200 when I removed it from eBay. I am deeply sorry for this and here is my explanation: Several days before the auction was to close I received a message from a concerned U2 fan who was part of a U2 collection group, and he was questioning the authenticity of the record. He presented some questions about this record that I was unsure about. As a precaution and to show good-faith, I ended the auction so I could answer his questions and concretely determine this record as genuine. We corresponded with each other over the course of January and February, exchanging information. It ended with me sending my record to be evaluated regarding its authenticity. I received the evaluation 3 weeks ago concerning the record. The letter gave the information needed for me to concretely determine that this record is authentic, which is why I am re-posting the auction. The concerned U2 fan acknowledged this evaluation, and I told him that I would include any information he wanted me to when I re-posted the auction, but got no further response.

Again, I apologize for suddenly taking down the auction with no explanation, but I wanted to make sure that this was 100% authentic.  I can provide a transcript of the messages exchanged between me the concerned U2 fan, as well as a copy of the evaluation for anyone who wishes to read what happened.

Record Specifications & Further Information:
The following are characteristics of the vinyl record to indicate that this is a genuine rarity and not a boot or fake.
The record has:

-an indented ring on the label which demonstrates that the record was processed by a pressing machine

-matrix numbers can be clearly seen.

-the label rests higher than the actual record - it does not indented.

-this record comes from Vinyl Exchange in Manchester, U.K. This is a highly regarded center for collectible vinyl discs.

-the matrix etchings in the run out groove are unique.

-the matrix numbers 6C and 6C-3 are on the record.

The record is a deep purple hue.

The link above and the pictures/description of the U2 All I Want Is You Purple Vinyl 7" comes directly from the the August 2006 issue of Record Collector magazine, a UK publication that printed the article detailing then top 60 U2 collectibles.  Record Collector is the United Kingdom's longest-running monthly music magazine. It distributes both within the UK and worldwide, and was started in 1979. Please use this as a reference when comparing the pictures/color of their genuine purple vinyl record with my own. They are exactly the same color.

Other Information:

I previously submitted pictures and the description of this vinyl to the EIL purchasing department. They made me an offer to buy this from me, and maintained the offer after the current record evaluation.

I have been a U2 fan for many years and don't think I have ever seen a fake version of this vinyl before. Extensive searches on google and other fan sites have also yielded no results as to what a fake would look like. Producing vinyl records is a time consuming and complex process.
