Two rare “Blue Back - Wide Band Grooved” London Records CS 6019, CS 6146 vinyls.
Offered for sale is the very rare “Blue Back Wide Band Grooved” London Records CS 6019 vinyl release of Beethoven’s 5th piano concerto. The concerto is performed by soloist Clifford Curzon with Hans Knappertsbusch conducting the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, recorded in Vienna in 1957. This CS 6019 release is a first pressing of the FFSS stereo version of this performance made for the USA market. It has the so called 'ED-1 Pancake Pressing’ with the groove close to the edges of the red label with silver lettering stating “Made in England”. Matrix/Runout ZAL-3667-2K, ZAL-3668-2K. It has the characteristic printed in the USA “blueback” sleeve and comes with the original London Records FFSS innersleeve. The whole in play-graded VG+/NM condition for record/sleeve.
Also offered for sale is the very rare “Blue Back Wide Band Grooved”London Records CS 6146 vinyl release of Franz von Suppé overtures performed by the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra with Georg Solti conducting and solo cello by Emmanuel Brabec in 1959. This CS 6146 release is a first pressing of the FFSS stereo version of this performance made for the USA market. The record has an ED-1 FFSS Wide Band Grooved label, with the deep groove in the middle of the red label with silver lettering stating “made in England” at 6 o’clock. Matrix/Runout: ZAL-4485-1E, ZAL-4486-2E. It has the characteristic printed in the USA “Blue Back” sleeve and comes with the original London Records FFSS inner sleeve. The whole in play-gradedVG+/NM condition for record/sleeve.

Review: “The performances on both records were recorded in 1957 and 1959 in Vienna.The sound of the recordings is full and warm, just as you would expect from the Sofiensaal in Vienna. They are early stereore cordings and already then Decca/London Records knew how to do it right."
