Description
Offered here is an original vintage 78 RPM blues record by legendary Delta blues artist Tommy Johnson, featuring “Bye Bye Blues” backed with “Maggie Campbell Blues” on Victor Records, catalog 21409.
Originally released circa 1930, this scarce Victor issue captures Tommy Johnson at the height of his haunting and influential Delta blues style. Johnson’s eerie vocals, expressive guitar work, and deeply emotional performances helped shape the foundations of country blues and inspired generations of musicians that followed.
This is a genuine shellac survivor approaching 100 years old and a difficult record to locate in any condition.
CONDITION / PLAY TESTED:
• Record has been play tested
• Despite a visible crack running from the outer edge toward the label, the record plays through and does NOT skip
• Expected background surface noise is present, typical of vintage shellac 78s
• From my playback, it actually sounds surprisingly strong and enjoyable considering its age and condition
• Surface wear, scuffing, and age-related handling marks are visible, but the record retains respectable gloss and presents better than many surviving examples from this era
