Description
Fine set recorded in NYC on June 26, 1957. The Thelonious Monk Septet, who are: Thelonious Monk, piano; Ray Copeland, trumpet; Gigi Gryce, alto; Coleman Hawkins, tenor; John Coltrane, tenor; Wilbur Ware, bass; Art Blakey, drums. An incredible line-up from the early post-bebop era!
Riverside monaural catalog #RLP-12-242. Released 1957. This is a monaural vinyl LP record, not a CD!
We test-play all used LPs on a high-end Technics turntable fitted with a Shure M95HE cartridge, tracking at 1.5 grams.
Disk condition: Very Good Plus. Minor surface noise, but no scratches, no skips, no pops. Plays smoothly with just a bit of hiss especially near the start of each side. Quite a few scuffs on the vinyl, but these are non-audible. The dead wax is stamped H16 plus the catalog number, and a US Patent Office stamp, presumably for Riverside's "spectrosonic" high fidelity engineering process. This is the first pressing with the mic and tape reels blue label.
Sleeve condition: Very Good Plus. The front cover art (suitable for framing IMHO) is clean and shiny with near-zero scuffing or ring wear. The rear cover is scuffed, age-yellowed, and shows ring wear. No cut-out notches, and no splits.
