Description
THESE RECORDINGS ARE THE BEST OF THELONIOUS MONK'S CAREER. Recorded between July of 1955 and April of 1961 this 22-record set chronicles the peak years of a major American artist. In these sessions he joins forces with a totally sympathetic producer, Orin Keepnews, and the finest musicians of his time, including Sonny Rollins, John Coltrane and Coleman Hawkins, tenor; Pepper Adams and Gerry Mulligan, baritone; Phil Woods, Gigi Gryce and Ernie Henry, alto; Thad Jones, Donald Byrd, and Clark Terry, trumpet; and the finest rhythm section players available. The albums represented include "Plays Duke Ellington", "Thelonious Alone" and "Alone In San Francisco", "Monk's Music", "Brilliant Corners", "Town Hall Concert", "Meets Mulligan", "Five By Monk By Five", "Live At The Blackhawk" and many more, plus alternate takes. The set is enclosed in a fabulous box and includes a high quality booklet with notes and session comments by Orin Keepnews.
The records are in near-mint condition, with most played only once on an audiophile quality Oracle turntable with an SME tonearm and a $400 Decca cartridge.
