Description
THELONIOUS MONK QUARTET Thelonious In Action Riverside RLP-262
Up for auction is an original U.S. Riverside DG (1958) High Fidelity (Mono) pressing of the Thelonious Monk Quartet's outstanding live lp, "Thelonious In Action". Featuring amazing work from Tenor Saxophonist Johnny Griffin. Recorded live at the Five Spot, NYC in the summer of 1958 (as was Misterioso). Great performances. Christgau likes it. This copy is oh so complete, with nice vinyl, cover and rice paper inner sleeve. DEAD WAX INFO: Side 1 has S RLP-12-262 A etched into the run-out. Side 2 has RLP-12-242 B etched into the run-out. Both Sides have the U.S. and G.B. pat. numbers stamped into the dead wax. Both sides have what appears to be the number 16 and the letter I underneath etched into the dead wax. Probably refers to pressing plant. Original 1958 U.S. Riverside High Fidelity (Mono) pressing. VINYL VISUAL: VG+ and much better with only some minor marking preventing this from being a NM rating. Great original large Blue/Silver labels (no INC.). Great sheen to the vinyl, almost like new.
VINYL PLAY GRADE: VG+ and much better with very little (typical Riverside) noise and excellent fidelity. Could use a cleaning, which might elevate this a wee bit more. Minor, typical noise level on lead-ins and between tracks. A GREAT player with that bright, Riverside DG sound.
COVER VISUAL: VG+ and better with very little wear. A very nice example indeed.
COMES WITH ORIGINAL RICE PAPER INNER (one of the best that I have seen). VINYL IS HOUSED IN A RICE PLASTIC AUDIOPHILE INNER.
PLEASE READ FOR DETAILS ON SELLER AND SHIPPING
HELLO ALL. My name is Jamie, and I have been collecting records steadily for over 45 years. After a bit of a respite from selling on Ebay, I am back and will be selling a ton of stuff over the next few years. My tastes run all over the map, so there will be something for everyone. All opened items will be visually AND aurally graded. All Dead Wax info will be listed. Play grade is done on a Thorens TD 165 through Yamaha amplification and JBL reference headphones (treble set high so there will be no surprises when you get the item).
ALL ITEMS WILL BE SHIPPED WITH PROPER MAILERS AND EXTRA PADDING, PARTICULARLY AT THE CORNERS. I HAVE MADE FAR TOO MANY PURCHASES ON EBAY WHERE THE ITEM HAS ARRIVED WITH DINGED CORNERS DUE TO INADEQUATE PACKAGING MATERIAL. BY USING FOLDED BUBBLE WRAP IN ALL FOUR CORNERS, YOU CAN BE ASSURED OF AN ITEM WITHOUT DINGED CORNERS (OR DAMAGE OF ANY KIND FOR THAT MATTER). Non-tracked shipping throughout the U.S.A will be $13 CANADIAN per item, as will tracked shipping within Canada. Tracked shipping to the U.S.A. will be $16 CANADIAN for items under 500g, and slightly more for items over 500g. Most single sleeve items can be shipped as under 500g. Gatefolds and multi-sets will be over 500g.
Being a reasonable person, I will be absorbing ALL of the shipping material cost, and some of the actual postage cost.
If you have issue with an item, PLEASE work with me to achieve an outcome that will be to your satisfaction. I do offer full refunds (excluding cost to get it back to me), on any item that is not satisfactory. SINCE SHIPPING OUTSIDE OF NORTH AMERICA IS RIDICULOUSLY EXPENSIVE (Thank You Canada Post), I will rarely list gatefolds or multi-items for sale overseas. IF ANYONE OUTSIDE OF NORTH AMERICA IS CRAZY INTERESTED IN ANY ITEM, I WILL QUOTE SHIPPING ON REQUEST. Since a lot of the stuff that I will be selling is of higher end quality, rarely will things be offered overseas. Sorry folks. Again, I can consider requests on an item-by-item basis. THANKS FOR READING, everyone. Occasionally I will be selling rare and collectible CDs. Shipping obviously will be much less, around $5 CANADIAN within North America.
