The High Numbers were a mod band, before they became a bit more famous as The Who!
They were originally called The Who, a name suggested by a friend of Pete Townshend, (they were formerly known as The Detours). They were then discovered by Pete Meaden, who wanted to make them famous as a Mod band, he became their manager and changed their name to "The High Numbers". It was a reference to the T-shirts with numbers that the mods used at the time. They released just one single in 1964, on Fontana records. The single didn't reach the high positions of the charts, and The High Numbers were rejected by EMI.
The band reverted to being called The Who at the end of the year, and became the greatest rock band ever!!
I bought this copy of the single back in 1969, from a friend who had bought it new, played it once and decided he didn’t like it! He went on to become a folk singer…. I have played it only about ten times and it is in “As New” condition, with no scratches or scuffing. Being completely honest, there are one or two EXTREMELY small very light surface marks showing, but they do not impede the sound quality in any way. They are the sort of marks you would expect on a record even when it is unplayed, bought direct from the shop. The label is in perfect condition and has the centre still intact. It plays perfectly with no sound deterioration, apart from a hardly audible click at the start of the A Side, and one or two very, very faint background noises, I was really straining to listen for faults! These may even disappear if the record were cleaned. It is the sort of condition that they were supplied in. The surface on both sides still have the high gloss finish to them, an all round superb copy of this extremely rare single, which I have cherished for 34 years! It has not been cleaned or polished. I doubt you will find a copy in as good condition as this very easily, most were played to death at parties in the sixties and suffered horrible fates, at the hands of drunken revellers, or multi-play record players.

This single features “Zoot Suit” on the A Side & “I’m The Face” as the B side, Fontana TF 480.
