UK 1966 genuine 1st press in mono
In EXCELLENT condition
History:
I bought this album in the early 70s, and played it occasionally over a period of a few years. It has been in storage for decades in its own thick plastic outer sleeve along with the rest of my record collection.
Vinyl:
This is an original UK 1st press in mono (there were no stereo pressings) on the Reaction label, made with thick high-grade vinyl. Visually the LP is in VERY GOOD to EXCELLENT condition, still with a nice black sheen, but with some surface marks and lines showing, mainly what dealers refer to as 'paper scuffs' or 'storage marks' from the inner sleeve. These are light and superficial, they are NOT scratches. There are some spindle marks on the labels but it really hasn’t been played often and not for decades! The sound, however, is fantastic! It plays beautifully ALL the way through. There are NO scratches, NO surface noise and NO distortion from wear. Quiet passages (and there are a few) are just that - quiet! And the loud stuff is full and powerful and clear. It is simply superb to listen to, it sounds AS NEW to my ears, and therefore warrants an EXCELLENT to NEAR MINT grading! This is a rare 1st pressing in this condition - 593002 A//1 1 (Side 1) and 593002 B//2 1 1 (Side 2) stamped by the run-off grooves. It sounds like a new record to me and I cannot imagine listening to a better copy.
Labels:
The original 1st press TEXTURED Reaction labels on both sides are in EXCELLENT clean condition with a some spindle marks.
Sleeve:
The original laminated-both-sides Ernest J. Day sleeve is in EXCELLENT MINUS condition (better than Very Good) showing some wear associated with handling and shelving and ageing. But there are NO corner dents, minimal laminate shrinkage, and the original 'pinched' spine at both ends is near perfect with just a few small light creases either side. The cover is clean and clear on both sides with no discolouration. There is some wear to the laminate sheen and a small crease with tiny tear on the front by the opening. Overall, this sleeve looks great considering that it is 46 years old!
Inner sleeve:
This is the original quality lined inner sleeve in EXCELLENT condition, crisp and flat without creases or corner dents, just some inevitable yellowing due to age. It has the numbers 116 next to Made In England bottom left which indicate it was printed in November 1966, just before the album was released.
Final verdict:
A superb genuine original 1st press copy to listen to.
