My gradings are based on RECORD COLLECTOR MAGAZINE criteria (see below). I have many years vinyl collecting experience, as well as many ebay sales. I have also sold a variety of very valuable items on ebay, including vintage guitars – an area perhaps even more picky than record collecting! Feel free to look through my feedback...

I have also taken care to photograph my vinyl with natural side lighting. This is important as it shows up all the faults in the covers clearly. It is easy to use soft lighting from above and get a sharp image which does not clearly show and creases, scuffs etc. It’s a small point, but I feel that the purpose of an ebay photo should be to show problems to the buyer not, to hide them. You will be pleasantly surprised rather than disappointed when you receive the item!

Record Collector magazine has originated a set of standards for the condition of second-hand records, cassettes and CDs. Anyone buying or selling records through the magazine must use our conditions to state what amount of wear and tear the disc, its sleeve and/or contents have been subject to. The seven standard condition categories, and a description of what each one means, are listed below:

MINT: The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.

EXCELLENT: The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.

VERY GOOD: The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

GOOD: The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discoloration, etc.

FAIR: The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump.
The cover and contents will be torn, stained and/or defaced.

POOR: The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.

BAD: The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler.

***IMPORTANT***

In responding to a question about spindle marking for this, I checked the record over and noticed some discoloration /marking on the playing surface side 2.

This is a record that has been in my collection for a while and not listened to much. I looked it over before listing and graded the vinyl as near mint. However, I should have looked more closely: there is a patch of white grime on side two that covers about 1 1/2 tracks (mostly 2nd last track). This wasn't obvious in natural light which i used to photo the record (lots of bright reflection) but looking again in a darker room it's obvious. Trying to list too many items at once and got careless I suppose. I'm not confident trying to clean this myself so I will be selling as is. Based on the criteria, this puts the vinyl itself into VG+ territory. A real shame since it's immaculate otherwise.

I played the record and the mark makes no audible difference during the track - it's the Stooges! - but can be heard as a faint scratch in the pause between songs. No idea if this can be cleaned or if it's even that big an issue, but looking at the bidding level I think it's worth pointing out. I will email the winning bidder, all others feel free to delete bids.
