The Stone Roses live Japan 95 double 12" on Blue
This Club Citta, Kawasaki set from 11.09.95 catches The Stone Roses in that most compelling of states: not pristine, not nostalgic, but alive and evolving, stretching their sound in real time with a kind of stubborn brilliance.
And at the heart of it is Robbie Maddix, who, by this point in ’95, isn’t just “filling in” he’s driving the whole thing forward. His playing has seriously levelled up over the year: confident, punchy, and unafraid to lean into the band’s groove-heavy DNA. Tracks like “Fools Gold” don’t just coast, they stride, with Maddix giving them a new kind of swagger that feels less baggy, more battle-ready.
Even the looser edges feel less like flaws and more like character. There’s a looseness, a freedom, like the band are giving themselves permission to push, pull, and reshape the songs as they go. It’s risky, sure, but when it clicks, it’s electrifying.
And somehow, the sound quality captures all of it beautifully, it’s astonishingly clear, you can hear the interplay, the atmosphere, the sheer space of the performance. It puts you right there in Kawasaki, watching a legendary band refusing to stand still.
