This is a rare chance to own a test pressing of the self titled first album from the Stone Roses.

The record itself is in very good condition and I've never really played it personally (only once to check out what it sounded like when I initially got the record). There are one or two very slight surface scuffs but nothing that affects the sound quality (not that you'd want to play it too often!).

The only distinguishing features on the record, to identify what it is, are scratched into the run-out grove. On side A it says - ORE LP 502 A and on side B it says ORE LP 502 B. On both sides there is also a small stamp, depicting a logo (this logo also appears on the record's label itself) I guess this is the logo of the people who pressed the record. After some research I found it is associated with this company The website is in French but you can use Google translator or Babelfish to translate. They are one of Europe top pressing companies. This logo also appears on the final released cut of the album, if you check an original pressing you should see it in the run out groove.

On the paper sleeve that the record came in the following is written:

I have compared this record to the released version of the album and the etching in the run out groove is slightly different (although the small logo is there) which seems to confirm that this cut wasn't used.

I've had some contact from an ebay member regarding this item and we've been discussing it's authenticity. The thing that he points out, which also threw me when I originally bought this record about six years ago, is that the label on it is French. The album wasn't pressed on a French label so this is odd. However, I feel the authenticity of this item is confirmed by the fact that the logo of the French pressing company also appears on the released version of the record. If you have a copy please check this out - you will see a tiny version of the logo that appears on the label of this record in the run out groove of your original release. Admittedly there is no Silvertone Records logo but I think this irrelevant because the 'SAN' logo confirms this is geniune.

I bought this record for top money from a reputable seller some years ago so I really do feel it has prominence. It is definately a very rare item, that I can say for sure.
