Description
Very rare USA uncensored first-press of "The Soft Machine" - The Canterbury trio's self-titled 1968 debut album, with Robert Wyatt, Kevin Ayers & Mike Ratledge. Heavyweight card gatefold cover, with 'kinetic' interactive cutout front - consisting of heavy card wheel backed by full-color paper image. This paper image, inside spread & back have the 'uncensored' image of the girl. (A bikini was applied/retouched onto subsequent issues).
Cat# as CPLP 4500 Stereo on front and CPLP 4500 Command/Probe on spine of cover. The disc's labels have the 'rainbow-colored' Command ABC Probe logo, with the "Grand Award Record Co" manufacture/address data as magenta text to label radius. Note that this issue has the CPLP-4500-S cat# in silver on the black labels with no speed indicated (see pic), not the more common label layout (that has the speed and cat# as CPLP-4500-A & CPLP-4500-B). The sides on this issue are indicated as Side I & Side II.

The vinyl has some scuffs but is clean for age (VG), in white/poly punch-hole liner. The 43 year-old sleeve shows some wear to edges, slight flecking to the un-laminated surface and the text on the spine is still intact. The back has 2 very light 'oil-like' stains in bottom 3rd and slight wear at the point on the back where the thumb cutout exists on the front. The inside spread is very clean. Overall, I shall have to be conservative and give this sleeve a Good.
The cardboard 'cog' insert is almost unmarked and the full-color paper insert is also clean and very tidy.
