The experience of buying records on Ebay is ruined if, when they arrive, you discover that they are either not in the condition stated or have been damaged in the post! For this reason I describe all my items in detail, and only post using strong sturdy packaging in a 'box' mailer with the record outside the sleeve to avoid seam-splitting. They are also from a non-smoking and pet-free home.

The Smiths - 'What Difference Does It Make' White Label 7" - 1984

Just as for the other very early UK Smiths singles, this release was promoted by Rough Trade using a 7" 'white label' pressing rather than the more common 12" white label pressings which were used for later releases (generally, 'Shakespeare's Sister' onwards). These 7" white label pressings are, as would be expected, now highly sought-after and collectable. The one being auctioned here was issued to radio stations in 1984 to promote 'What Difference Does It Make' and is now extremely scarce. The white label on the 'A' side has been stamped by Rough Trade with the letter 'A' inside a circle, as was done for many of these early white label 7"s, but are generally otherwise unmarked (see below). Copies of this white label 7" now appear only very rarely for sale, and seem certain to continue appreciating in value.The vinyl and labels are somewhere between strong excellent and near mint condition, which is very rare for a record of its age. It appears to have been played very little and has been extremely well looked-after; particularly for such a promotional record. The vinyl remains glossy and has only the very lightest of superficial surface marks in a few places which can just about be seen if held to strong light. The white labels have only the stamped 'A' on the 'A Side' as mentioned above, and there is some faint marking in one small region on the reverse; but otherwise the labels are extremely clean and unspoilt. The outer sleeve is a plain black thin die-cut sleeve in which the record was likey sent out, and is also in strong excellent condition with no rips or tears. Please see the accompanying photos for more detail; note that the 'Ebay ID' lettering is just on the pictures and not on the item itself.
