The experience of buying records on Ebay is ruined if, when they arrive, you discover that they are either not in the condition stated or have been damaged in the post! For this reason I describe all my items in detail, and only post using strong sturdy packaging in a 'box' mailer with the record outside the sleeve to avoid seam-splitting. The Smiths - 'This Charming Man' German 7" With Press Sheet - 1983

The early German releases of Smiths singles were put out on the 'Intercord' label, which has now become a source of rare collectable Smiths pressings. This auction is for the first Smiths 7" single to be released in Germany, and this is the original 1983 pressing. It comes in the as-issued 'jukebox' large centre-hole format, and has striking blue and black labels. The outer sleeve is unique in that it has a circular printed brown "Aus der englischen Hitparade" logo and a representation of the Union Jack flag which is part of the sleeve design and not a sticker. There are also unique credits to "Rough Trade Deutschland" on the reverse of the sleeve, as well as the "Intercord" symbol and catalogue number in the corners. What makes this item so special, however, is the additional original press kit with which it comes. This press sheet has the date "1/84" at the bottom, and was included for record stations to promote the single in Germany. The sheet is the original and not a reproduction; it shows signs of ageing in keeping with the age of the record, and has a superb 'rainbow' background design in addition to the German text. This is a truly rare item, and you never see one with its original 'Intercord' press sheet for sale on the market; as such its value is certain to continue to grow.The vinyl and labels are in strong excellent condition, with only the lightest of 'hairline' surface marks in one or two places on the bright glossy vinyl. The unique outer sleeve is also in strong excellent condition, with just very light 'rippling' towards one corner and a mild impression formed by the record having been inside the sleeve; but which has not developed into more pronounced 'ringwear'. The edges and corners are all remarkably unworn, and there is no seam-splitting to this delicate paper sleeve. Note that the 'speckled' effect in Photos 3 and 4 is due to the scanner and is not on the record sleeve. The exceptionally-rare press sheet is in excellent condition, with just some creasing to one corner and a neat crease along the opposite edge where it has been neatly folded to fit inside the record sleeve as it would have been sent out. There are no marks or writing, and there are no tears in the press sheet. Please see the accompanying photos for more detail; note that the 'Ebay ID' lettering is just on the pictures and not on the item itself.
