Description

The experience of buying records on Ebay is ruined if, when they arrive, you discover that they are either not in the condition stated or have been damaged in the post! For this reason I describe all my items in detail, and only post using strong sturdy packaging. They are also from a non-smoking and pet-free home.
I accept returns and offer a full refund if you are not happy with your purchase.

The Smiths - 'First Album' German Marbled Vinyl Promo LP - 1984

Catalogue no. RTD 25 - Rough Trade Germany

The German Rough Trade pressings of the early Smiths releases were done with particular style, as demonstrated in the variety of striking coloured vinyl pressings which exist from the early part of The Smiths' musical career. The Record Collector Smiths 'Top 100' article suggests that this promotional-only version of The Smiths' first LP in Germany is "the most beautiful of them all" and it would be difficult to disagree. While the regular German first LP pressing looks much like that of any other country, a special run of 500 individually-numbered multicoloured 'marbled' vinyl pressings were produced to promote this release with particular panache. Indeed, while this pressing was listed at Number 8 in the aforementioned article of 2005, it was listed at Number 2 in the earlier 1992 version of the article. In that time the estimated value of the record had risen from 100.00, in 1992, to 350.00 in 2005, which is a testimony to the accumulating value of genuine collectable rarities and the increasing demand for such items as the field of Smiths and Morrissey collecting continues to mature and gather momentum. It is said that no two of the records are identical due to the nature of the pressing process, and it is possible to bring out different aspects and subtleties of the appearance of the vinyl with different lighting (see photos). This one is numbered 462 on the central white label which also carries the track listing and catalogue information. This is a truly wonderful item for a Smiths collector, which continues to be a pleasure to own long after it is acquired, and this one has been preserved in superb condition (see below).

The vinyl and labels are in strong excellent condition, with just the faintest of minor 'hairline' surface marks which are only visible if the record is held to the light. The record has probably been played only once or twice, if at all. The picture sleeve is the standard German first LP sleeve which was sent out with many of the copies of this promotional LP and is fairly easily replaced; it is also in strong excellent condition with just some very minor traces of wear around the edges. Please see the accompanying photos for more detail; note that the 'Ebay ID' lettering is just on the pictures and not on the item itself.

All my auctions start at 1P and have NO RESERVE. They are all 100% genuine, original versions. Some are in mint/new condition and some are used; all will go to the highest bidder. I offer a money-back guarantee if anything is described incorrectly. Postage and Packing is 2.50 in the UK for untracked and uninsured standard postage, this is subsidised by myself and the actual costs to me will usually be higher. Please do consider paying the extra 70p for tracked postage since there is nothing that can be done to find out what happened if the parcel is lost when standard postage is chosen. Shipping costs are greater for overseas buyers, but still subsidised and very good value; please check prices by using the options above or feel free to ask. Extra items are sent at no extra postage charge to the buyer (see below). I always take great care to package items well with strong mailing materials.

See my other auctions for related rare items here. If multiple auctions are won at the same time (within a week), I will charge only the postage cost for the heaviest item and pay the remaining postage myself. This is the case wherever you live. If you are planning to bid, but cannot be around at the end of the auction, I have found this (free) site to be useful; note that I am not affiliated with the site in any way!
