Description
For sale is one of the "Holy Grails" of '80's 7" vinyl records.
This is a genuine and original copy of Damage Done - Watch (Merciful Release MR 7) by The Sisters of Mercy.
This was bought by myself and has been hidden away for the last couple of decades but the time has now come to let someone else enjoy what has now become an ultra rare piece of British Indie music history.
The Sisters of Mercy were formed in Leeds in 1980 by Andrew Eldritch (drums, guitar & vocals) and Gary Marx (guitar & vocals).
With one guitar and a three watt practice amp they record a single to "hear themselves on the radio".
Merciful Release is formed to release it and it does get airplay on the radio.
Described by the band themselves as "unobtainable and even more unlistenable".
As some of you will already know there were only ever 1,000 copies of this single ever pressed.
There have been two attempts to fake this single, the first was the better of the two, but the cross on the top steeple was missing from the picture and the etchings on the face of each side were different, and the second was released in 2009 and has a gloss black sleeve.
I have taken pictures of the cover and zoomed in on the cross on the top of the steeple and also taken pictures of a few of the etchings in the run out zone of both sides of the single.
The pictures of the etchings and the cross are something that I personally think are a must so that you can see that this is an excellent and genuine example of a ultra rare single.
The etchings are:
A PORKY PRIME CUT / MR 7 - PICTURE - 1 / EG / FOR SPIGGY
A NUDDER PORKY PRIME CUT / FOR TRIXIE / MR 7 - WORDS - 1 / EG
The cover has very minimal signs of wear, there are no tears, rips, stickers or sticker marks on the cover.
The record itself is in excellent condition and has only ever been played 5 times.
It is not warped, bent or chipped.
I do not know what the sound quality is like now because I no longer own a turntable to check it out.
