Those who think they know "Papa-Oom-Mow-Mow" from The Trashmen's "Surfin' Bird" are kidding themselves, and also cheating themselves, because they haven't heard Carl White's stunning, soaring, magnificent lead (adjectives that hardly would seem appropriate to the song as The Trashmen did it). This LP opens with the Rivingtons' classic original, and it gets better from there, with the soulful and suggestive "Love Pill," which is almost as good a showcase forAl Frazier's baritone and Matthew Nelson's bass as it is for White, and their a cappella rendition of "Long Tall Sally," which might be the best rendition this side of the original. "You Are My Sunshine" is an attempt to apply the "Papa-Oom-Mow-Mow" treatment to the old Gene Autry hit, with considerable success, while "Happy Jack" is a catchy group original with glorious ensemble singing and barely audible drum, piano, and guitar accompaniment. "Mama-Oom-Mow-Mow" is more syllabic zaniness from this incomparable quartet, while "Kickapoo Joy Juice" carries the vocal acrobatics a step further, with trumpet flourish accompaniment, and "Slippin' and Slidin'" is an even more radical deconstruction of a Little Richard song on purely vocal terms than "Long Tall Sally" was. "Old Time Love" is almost tame by comparison, as a soaring R&B ballad, while "Have Mercy, Mercy Baby" is a quicker-tempo workout in a freer flowing vein. And "Standing in the Love Line" rounds out the album in the most conventional possible mode, a Motown-style ballad that might've been a good vehicle for the Four Tops and isn't bad here, either.

FINALLY ONE LAST WORD RE HAIRLINES, IT IS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND ANY NON-SEALED RECORD WITHOUT THEM, MANY HAD THEM FROM NEW. MOSTLY THEY ARE A RESULT OF STORAGE AND USE AND USUALLY HAVE LITTLE IMPACT ON THE SOUND QUALITY. THE SAME GOES FOR BACKGROUND NOISE, UNFORTUNATELY, ALL RECORDS WILL HAVE SOME AND THIS VARIES AND REFLECTS THE PRESSING QUALITY.
Most records have production marks where someone touched or moved the vinyl while it was still semi-soft. These marks look like smudges, but are not scratches or "paper scuffs" and do not usually sound. Untouched vinyl from newly-opened records have these marks.
RECOMMENDED!
FULLY GUARANTEED!
IMPORTANT NOTE: unless otherwise noted, ALL records are graded visually, and NOT play-graded.
Records are graded under bright lights or discrete sunlight - In the case of visibly possible harmful scratches, the record will be tested and sound quality noted. Many vintage (1955-70) records will play fine with visible damage due to superior vinyl and better pressings.

How I Grade Condition Of Discs
Mint
This means I have owned it from new or purchased from a distributors warehouse, basically it means absolutely new shape, never been played or out of its dust cover. In the case of LP's, a North American album will have to be factory sealed (anyone can reseal an album!) Take Note: European and Japaneses albums were never shrink wrapped!
Note: Being mint does not guarantee it's free of pops and clicks, many pressings especially from the US were made with very poor vinyl and in a hurry which means often there are imperfections in the pressing. As a former importer, we were often given back brand new albums due to clicks heard in the playback.
Mint Minus - No such thing, it's either mint or not.
Excellent - A disc is super clean, with no visible marks
Excellent Plus, means it's probably mint but can't be proven by me.
Excellent minus, is a disc that is excellent except it may have some markings that do not show up in the playing
VG - A disc that is STILL in good shape, WILL have some scuffs or scratches, not in excellent shape but well worth owning. VG + and ++,a disc that is that much better than VG.
VG minus, just a smidgen below VG
