Linda Ronstadt received a gold record certified by the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) commemorating sales of over 500,000 copies of her 1977 album, Simple Dreams.

The award was presented to J.D. Souther, a singer-songwriter and frequent collaborator of Ronstadt's.

Simple Dreams was Linda Ronstadt's eighth studio album and one of the most successful of her career.

The album remained at number 1 on the Billboard album chart for five consecutive weeks in 1977.
It was Ronstadt's fifth consecutive album to achieve platinum status and sold over 3.5 million copies in less than a year in the United States.
