Formed in 1963, The Pretty Things took their name from Willie Dixon's 1955 song "Pretty Thing." Originally an R&B band spawned a run of successful releases. By 1967, the band had become immersed in the UK underground scene, developing a more harmony-led, experimental sound.
Parachute was the bands fifth album released in 1970. Both Parachute and SF Sorrow have since become recognised classics, although the Pretty Things still, in my mind remain underrated by many.
Sleeve: US gatefold (unipak) sleeve with inside pocket, no rips, splits or writing, all edges straight, spine remains intact and fully readable. Light age related signs of handling, light edge rub and minor ringwear on rear sleeve (see photos) graded a strong VG+
Labels: Classic Rare Earth labels - clean, couple of trails on S2, light play only (see photos) graded VG+
Vinyl: retains its original black glossy sheen. Visually looks EX, couple of very small feint lines from sleeve removal really only visible under light so graded EX-
Audio: Lovely clear audio - plays through clean - no hisses, skips, sticks, pips, pops, crackle or static (played on Project carbon - blue Ortofon) EX- kissing EX
Will post abroad through eBay Global Shipping, however please note I have no control on shipping costs (stated postage charge is for UK part of the journey only) or delivery time. All records are separated and carefully packed in mailers or crucifix boxes with stiffeners. I also use bubble wrap were appropriate.
I have tried to be honest and transparent in my description - the photographs form part of the description. Questions are welcome, don't hesitate to ask. I have good feedback (and positive comments) as both a buyer and seller, so you can buy with confidence. I have been a collector for 45+ years buying and selling records over the years to feed my changing habits. The few records I sell are either the results of upgrades, a bit of thinning or duplicates every now and again as this is. If anything is not as expected, please contact me straight away, and I will do everything to resolve any problems without argument.
I strictly adhere to the Record Collector Magazine's Grading Guide using one + or - as an additional guide:
MINT: The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition.
EXCELLENT: The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and / or creasing.
VERY GOOD: The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.
GOOD: The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration, etc.
