The National Health by Max‹mo Park.

or Rating:

Tracks:
When I Was Wild
National Health, The
Hips and Lips
Undercurrents, The
Write This Down
Reluctant Love
Until the Earth Would Open
Banlieue
This Is What Becomes of the Brokenhearted
Wolf Among Men
Take Me Home
Unfamiliar Places
Waves of Fear

Performer Notes: After a three-year hiatus -- during which frontman Paul Smith released the solo effort Margins -- Maximo Park returned with The National Health, an urgent, politicized set of songs that suggests a break was just what the band needed to get its fervor back. From the fiery title track onward, the album points out injustice and stands up for the have-nots with an energy that is honed by producer Gil Norton. Of course, Maximo Park don't forget to address affairs of the heart on "Hips and Lips" and "Reluctant Love," but this album's focus is on the outside world, and Smith and company sound all the better for it.

Professional Reviews: Q (Magazine) (p.104) - "The tremendous title track is a cryptic rant that douses the personal with the political to fire-starting effect..."

Uncut (magazine) (p.77) - "Intense yet inclusive, the jittery rhythmic push and buzzing guitars frame Paul Smith's passionate tales of social unease and romantic bumps..."

Format: Vinyl (1 Disc)
