Description
This beautiful sealed copy of The Marvelettes "Please Mr. Postman" is a little piece of history. Not only was it very near the beginning of MOTOWN Records, the title track was the first of many number #1's the label would record over the next few decades.
This appears to be the rare 1961 first pressing on Tamla Records (TM 228) with the Tamla logo of the globe overlapping a disc. On the back cover it says "Manufactured by Motown Records, 2648 W. Grand Blvd, Detroit, Mi.".
The record couldn't be more mint if it had come out yesterday. Despite the fact it's been in shrink wrap for over 45 years (god, I feel old), the white album cover isn't the least bit faded or yellowed. There's not even a hint of ring wear on the cover or shrink wrap. If you were going over this record with a magnifying glass the only thing you could find that was remotely 'used' about it is an almost unnoticeable crease about 2 inches up from the bottom left of the cover and about a 1/8th inch tear of the shrink wrap on one corner.
I've been collecting records for over 35 years. I only deal in clean (near mint) merchandise and am careful to describe any small 'defects' but this album has none. This is one of those 'once in a blue moon' finds that record collectors occasionally come across. I don't think that I've ever seen even a re-issue of this album and this one is the mint original sealed mono version you would have bought in a record store in Detroit back in 1961!!!
If the reserve is not met on this album it goes back into the vault because it's only going to increase in value throughout the years. Good luck and good bidding.
