Original 1st US issue of The Mama’s and The Papa’s’ debut album “If You Can Believe Your Eyes and Ears” released by Dunhill Records on February 28th ,1966. The cover of this copy is the original uncensored withdrawn version depicting the band members sitting in bathtub and a toilet bowl in the lower right-hand corner on the front. After this cover was judged indecent, it was quickly withdrawn from the retail. Since that time this cover has acquired the name of “Toilet” cover becoming a collectible item. The photo was taken by the legendary photographer Guy Webster without whose photos it’s hard to imagine the album artwork design of the most popular bands, including The Doors, The Beach Boys and The Rolling Stones. Besides the uncensored image, the front cover contains the “Stereo” banner and “DS-50006” catalog number. After this cover version, Dunhill released four more variations of this album all of which, including the original version, had a misprint where the “The Mamas and the Papas” title was stylized as “The Mama's and the Papa's”. Besides the Mono and Stereo catalog number, the back cover contains a pictorial Dunhill pictorial story booklet mail order offer at the bottom. Original 1st print second Dunhill Records label variation (1966) with “A Subsidiary of A.B.C. – Paramount Records, Inc. Made in U.S.A.” and 2.75” pressing ring. 1st issue vinyl pressed at the Columbia Records, Santa Maria, CA and mastered by Customatrix, a subsidiary of Columbia, as identified by the “S” letter and small “o” symbol in the runout grooves. The full matrix numbers are as follows: Side 1: o I 114575-1B D S 50006A A5; Side 2: o 114576-1A D S 50006B  A I I 2. The album comes with the original “Dunhill is Turning on the People!” inner sleeve with the adverts for the other Dunhill releases.

I grade the beautiful cover remaining in the original factory shrink wrap as Near Mint Minus. Aside from the light push in to the top and bottom right corners, the cover is in stunning condition. I grade the glossy vinyl as Very Good Plus. It has some very light non-feelable surface marks and hairlines as well as scuffs from the original inner sleeve which is in Excellent condition and doesn't contain any splits or tears, just some light creases in the corners. The labels are very clean and in Near Mint condition without having any scuffs, wear or spindle marks. The vinyl sounds amazing only having some light static which most likely will go away if the record is professionally cleaned using a VPI cleaning machine.
