Description

Thad Jones The Magnificent Thad Jones (Blue Note 1527) original mono 'RVG'

Jones (tpt) with Billy Mitchell (ts); Barry Harris (p); Percy Heath (b); and Max Roach (d).

Recorded in July 1956.
Jones truly arrived as adventurous composer and arranger for modern small groups with this LP, which stands as among his greatest work in the idiom. "Thedia" is the masterpiece, a Thad original in which he stretches his compositional and soloing talents over eleven minutes.
Issue: The original Blue Note release in its first pressing (161 Lexington avenue on label; 767 Lexington on back cover).

Side A runout: BN-LP-1527-A  9M  RVG Side B runout: BN-LP-1527-B  (reverse 'ear')  9M  RVG

Condition: VG++. Little spindle wear on either side. Blemishes, minor lines show on BN's heavy vinyl but there are no scratches affecting sound. Flat edge.
LP cover photo unmarked; back cover as well. Both top and bottom corners on closed side slightly bumped. Spine all right if worn; this original issue had no text on it. Significant split on bottom edge (see: photo).

I'm an independent seller divesting his own record collection. I'm not selling from a store or warehouse, with multiple copies of titles, or on behalf of a professional collector.

Shipping: Ebay requires seller to indicate shipping methods and other particulars, then automatically inserts the cost at the top of the listing. Buyer will pay amount as determined by destination and shipping method he chooses; I don't gouge the price to make more profit. (USPS Media Mail is cheapest; I will provide prices for US Priority, or for FedEx or UPS ground, if requested.)

Insurance is mandatory: Please wait till I inform you of cost prior to submitting payment. It and not Ebay's stated cost is the amount to be paid.

**For winners outside US**: USPS shipping options are International Priority and International Express. Both methods include insurance but only Express has tracking. If you want a different shipper, I will quote you the cost at end of auction.

Packing: The LP will be carefully wrapped, then placed in a standard, cardboard LP box. Please indicate any special instructions.

Payment: I accept Paypal. I also accept cash in cases of in-person deliveries.

Returns: Returns will be accepted in cases of error in description.

N A record known to be new. This includes factory sealed records.
NM   A record known or assumed to have been played. May have a surface scuff mark but only from removing and reinserting record in sleeve. May have slight spindle wear. Otherwise, appears same as N in all respects.
VG++ More handling marks visible than on N-, but should play like a new record.
VG+ No more than a few minor scratches or marks which are audible. Such scratches or other defects will usually be described in specific detail.  Record will usually not have any groove wear.
VG More than a few minor audible defects, but no steady noise. No appreciable groove wear.
